Following the inclusion of e-airsports in the General section of the FAI Sporting Code, a project that we have been working on for several months, we are thrilled to announce the launch of the World Series 2023!

The World Series is an International Competition organised in cooperation with the FAI - World Air Sports Federation.
Virtual pilots will fly 16 races in 16 different countries, in order to promote our sport across the globe.

It aims at providing virtual pilots with a Virtual Gliding Championship running on a calendar year. We expect this series to attract both current glider pilots and many people who may aspire to compete in glider contests.

This event is a free event and rules might be adapted throughout the year, to be able to organise a Virtual World Gliding Championship in 2024 with solid rules, adapted to Virtual Gliding.

Pilots will race in different classes and different formats (RT, AAT, VSGP) throughout the year.

All races are scored with 1000 points. All points added throughout the year to the Championships’ table.

The World Series 2023 will start in February 2023. The last venue will be in Narromine, Australia, on the 16th of December 2023.

Hello,
I assume Thursday 9.2.2023 is correct competition starting date?
On Condor-Club first race day is marked for Thursday 9.3.2023

Hello Jarmo,

Start date and first competition day in 9th of February indeed, as mentionned on CC and on the website.
Full schedule is available there as well.

Don't look at the two tasks that we posted, they are just there so that CC can show the event publicly and you can register.
It could have been any date of the year.. I will modify so there is no doubt, thanks for spotting!

Have a good day,
Antoine

First 3 races seem to collide with CWC. Any chance the first 3 races could be moved? Maybe Wednesday instead of Thursday?

Hi Witold,

Sorry but we will not move the dates.
For streaming purposes, we have decided that eSports races would be either Monday or Thursday and we don’t have much choice for February and March… they always impact CWC races.

We don’t want to stream on a Tuesday or Wednesday nor in the weekend when UCL or any sports game are live on TV.

I know it’s not the most convenient days for the pilots, but there are several slots on CWC too..

Thanks for asking and for your understanding,
Antoine

That is a shame. CWC has had the thursday slot for many years and a lot of the top Condor pilots compete there. Shame this hasn't been thought of by the organisation of this event. Especially as the tuesday is completely free in Februari. I will be missing the first 3 races, and I guess many with me as well.

It's not my business, but flying on Tuesday or Wednesday and streaming on Thursday?

It has been well thought by the organisation Wiek, but it is our decision as explained above to have eSports streamings on Monday and Thursday.
I don't agree with the fact that CWC has booked the thursday slot for years thus has priority over FAI events.

1) We sincerely believe that there is enough space for both events, as there are several slots. You will not miss the races if you arrange the planning.

2) Best days to stream are Saturday and Sunday but no one (pilots and organisation) will want to dedicate 16 weekend of the year to Virtual Gliding. Monday and Thursday are the best time for the pilots to fly during the week and have the potential to attract fans because there are no big sporting events during those days.

I know it's not the most convinient for everyone.
There are always pros and cons to be taken into account when taking decisions and I can guarantee that it has been in our heads when planning it.

Hope you understand it!
Have a good day,
Antoine

I don't understand that, can you elaborate please?

Btw, last venue in Australia is streamed on the 16th of December, it's a saturday, to end the event!

It's not my business means that I'm not involved in FAI flying

I read that there is a wish not to fly on Thursday (only 3 times), and I read that it should be flown on Thursday because of streaming.

So I suggest to fly on Tuesday or Wednesday and stream the flight on Thursday, not live, one or two days later

Unfortunately not feasible because we must 'spectate' the race and comment it live.
I see your point, but it makes not point to release a video 2 days after the race, when everyone knows the outcome... or know that it is not live.

Who is watching a football game in replay today?
A good thing in the future would be to have highlights of each virtual race on Youtube by the way :)
Any talented people here? haha

Only 3 flights, hide the results until streaming.

But, as I said, not my business ;-)

So why not Monday? I agree with Wiek that because of the clash some people will not participate in the first races of the World series. I just see this as very unfortunate as condor community is very small and whenever pilots have to chose between competitions numbers on both competitions are affected, which could and should be avoided.

Switching a slot on CWC might not be so easy. Thursday is in the middle of the week. For an earlier slot at 17:15 people might not get back from work, Morning slots would not work as people are working, flight at 23:15 is a bit late for people who go to work next morning.

If world series races cannot be moved I guess we will have to live with a split and lower numbers on both races, which is very unfortunate.
