64 bit would be nice...

Just had Condor 2 crash on me half way through a task with an "Out of memory" error - I have 64GB of system memory and 24GB of video memory, I refuse to believe that I don't have enough!!
Post your errorlog.txt file please

One aspect of soaring is the "art of landing out" choosing the right field at the right time is important.
In Condor 2 you can pretty much land everywhere as soon as you avoid trees and buildings, maybe giving the option to landscape builder to add a Layer of land/no land terrain could add even more realism.

Please don't add this feature... said every landscape developer ever...

In all seriousness, I think this is actually a really neat feature request - however, many landscapes don't even have tree masks yet - much less landable field masks. This is one of those features in the category of: excellent suggestions but would require small army of Photoshop painters - to implement. There is no global data we can download for "landable" vs "unlandable" terrain. So it would have to be manually painted just like trees - which exponentially increases the time required to create a landscape.

It's pretty full from previous sessions but the only thing under the date for this session in particular is this...

Code: Select all

********************************
********** 05/04/2022 **********
********************************

*** SETUP ***
-----
and then the file ends. I had 2 sessions that day too, and was well into the 2nd session multiplayer, had just started and was gliding to the first TP when it crashed. No idea why there isn't more in the Errorlog...

Post by Fowly » Thu Apr 07, 2022 10:39 pm

Hi all,

I am using Condor since the first one.

I am chief-pilot and flight/aerobatics instructor at LFFB (buno bonnevaux) airport, France. i use Condor2 a lot of times vith the students.

Since last update (2.1.7.) i have lot of crasches, return to desktop with no error line in the error log.
i did read all the posts i found about condor crasches.

My PC configuration: alienware aurora R8, Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-9600K CPU @ 3.70GHz 3.70 GHz, 48,0 Go RAM, NVidia 3070, VR headset HP reverb G2, WMR, Revive, Steam VR, windows 10. internet connection 100Mb/s (optic fiber).

i think that in VR, WMR+Steam VR+revive is not so good for stability.

So please for Condor3: try to get condor3 to be native with all VR systems (especially WMR and steam VR).
I really hope it will be possible for the developpers.

Please help the WMR ansd SteamVR users!

Thanks al lot

Native Windows VR is a must and is the reason I stopped flying Condor - because there isn't any.

Once you experience it, it's very hard to go back to flat screen.

VR puts you in the aircraft as opposed to watching a screen. Everything is perceived at true 1:1 scale with 3d depth perception.

It makes the difference between believing you are 1000ft up and not.

I hope they go for this option and not some kind of Facebook exclusive again.

It would be nice if we could map multiple keys to each option. This would allow all the keyboard assignments to stay but also map joystick or other inputs to the same assignment.

Hi all,

Would it be possible to set different realism preset for task setter?

First I'm thinking about the possibility to get options (as it's already exist in F1 esport), specially in regatta with 60 glider on gate :? :

option 0 collision
option 1 no collision before start gate open
option 2 no collision before xxkm after start gate is past
option 3 no collision at all (which already exists but i'm not sure that it's ever been used^^)

IRL grand prix, it's literally a nightmare during the 3 first thermal with only 20 gliders, so perhaps in Condor, when we allows 60 gliders on the gate, those options could save a lot of frustration for some of us (VR pilot who are able to look outside efficiently vs flat screen ones who can't be as precise)

Second, and to add realism, maybe that better than using "pure polar" from Vso to VNE, it could be possible for the task setter to activate a degraded polar once a certain speed is reach (with no water ~160km/h in standard class, ~170km/h in 15m, ~180km/h in 18m). It's a real fact that with there is NO glider which doesn't suffer from air leaks, gust factors, or bugs or whatever else. Doing a 170km/h Xcspeed with 2.0m/s average in LS8 full ballast doesn't sound really realistic (even if it's fun).

And third, please allow restart after reaching the first turnpoint without landing and take off again^^

If this is implemented and you fly through the startsector after turning a turnpoint you would get a restart. That is why it is disabled. If you land and restart from the ground you can restart the task after turning a turnpoint

As PEV start will be use from this year on IGC's competition, it might be imaginable to implement same procedure start as the "no pda" start?
(Wich is really similar of PEV, countdown in less)

From a North American tasker's (137 Condor Club tasks) point of view:
1. Modify Penalty zones to have more than 6 points for irregular airspace, and have an option for circular Penalty Zones;
2. Set units by the settings in Setup/Units (i.e., feet for Australian or Imperial units) for both Penalty Zones and heights in Flight Planner/Task/Task Points/TP Properties. It would be equally acceptable to have both Metric and Imperial/Australian units (i.e., both feet and metres) shown.
3. If the Start/Finish/OZ presentation is being worked on, being able to set desired start height based on cloudbase (e.g., 500' below cloudbase) and finish height, and type of start/finish (start/finish line, altitude, cylinder), with default values on a page in the options dialog box, would make repetitive entries during a contest, where a lot of detail work is necessary, less prone to error. SeeYou has a good one for OZ.
4. in Flight Planner/Task/Load flight plan dialog, it defaults to 'default flightplans' rather than 'user flightplans'. This is an added click that shouldn't be required. There should be a single 'flightplan' folder, containing them, with the option for the user to delete them or store them in a folder within the flight plan folder (the functionality of the current 'user flightplans' tab now). I'm sure it was handy during initial testing to get to the defaults, but we are beyond testing now.
5. In Flight Planner/Task page, the 'task points' box on the right side should be extended to include up to 10-12 turnpoints. There is space for it, and seeing the whole task is useful on more complex tasks.
6. in Flight Planner/Task page, the text does not wrap. A larger task description with text wrapping inside it would improve it.
7. In Flight Planner/Task page, the 'total distance' and 'height' measurements, and the distance scale, are difficult to read with some terrain maps. It would be better if they had a background colour, contrasting with the font colour. Then, they would be visible no matter what map is under them.
8. I would like to be able to make tasks that are handicapped - for example, Standard Class gliders, handicapped. This is not IGC, but my rationale is that a new Condor 2 user shouldn't be a couple of percent down immediately on buying it to be competitive. They've just bought Condor, computer, joystick, probably rudders, maybe a VR headset. It seems kicking them when down by making them fly a non-competitive glider is unfair. I can do this in Condor Club - but I should not have to. This is the Complete Soaring simulator, and should cater to all users, not just IGC class snobs. Alternately, sell Condor with the gliders that have the highest handicap at the time of buying in each class so they enter and not have to buy a bunch of gliders immediately. Original Condor plan packs were more economical than the current sales method.

I like Condor 2, but it is very frustrating to use to task, and it currently makes me not want to do it anymore...

As a pilot:
1. I'd like an 18m non-flapped glider - I don't like using flaps. Both the LS-8 and Discus 2 have 18m variants. People say they are not competitive in 18m; no, but they are easier to fly, and I can live with the disadvantage. I cannot imagine putting wing extensions on would be that much work. I've not flown one in real life, can't speak to the difference in flight model.
2. Include CoTASA-like functionality with wind arrow, and TAS alerting.
3. Have both "Pause" and "Autopilot" functionality in single-player.
4. Use the capability of more modern (but not top-end) video cards - i.e., ability to use more than 3 GB of VRAM.

Finally, I really like the Condor 2 PDA screens 1-4. They're all I need, and I wish there were a program for my Oudie that worked that well.

Thanks to all the Team, and the landscape creators, the plane designers. It kept me sane (more or less) during the last two years of lockdowns.

Hi I got a simple one how about making it possible to set the colours of the start and turn points on the PDA in the settings.

The Red and Green we currently have make it all but impossible to see at times for those with colour blindness.

Hi,
I have read that there will be weather front systems for condor 3, so I asked myself the following questions.
Will there be valley winds in condor3,
so that you can fly in the morning in the alps on the east slopes and in the evening on the west slopes without having a dominating supraregional wind ?

Also, I was wondering if there will be cloudstreets in the low mountain ranges such as the ( Thüringerwald and the Jura) so that there will be cloudstreets along the highest parts of the mountain ranges and there will be better thermals than in the low areas around them ?

Thermal greetings Tbi
