Scenery problem
Scenery problem
I thought I knew my way around scenery making, but today this problem is a first.
I have made a new 8x8 scenery for my own use of Ascension Island. Created some textures using the water alpha tool and included all the essential files, although the .cup file has no data yet.
When I tried to run the scenery in Condor I got this error. Now I know that is the common message for when you run the demo versions of Cadfael's Black and White sceneries, but why I am getting it on my own scenery?

Re: Scenery problem
Yes interesting to see that I am not the only one it has happened to.
Cannot understand why size should be an issue as I have 4x4 sceneries with no problem, also Jbr guide has a 4x4 scenery.
I have made the scenery anew from scratch and it is still the same.
Would it not be unreasonable for the Condor Team to inform me why this error occurs, even by PM if they do not want it to be public.
Not a big deal as only a small scenery, but would be very frustrating if it occurred after a lot of work.

Re: Scenery problem
I think you need to generate keys (.fha and .tha files)
Re: Scenery problem
Thanks Thierry, but those two files have been created by the Landscape Editor and renewed each time and often.
I have stripped the scenery back to its basics, even no textures.
My only remaining thought is the terrain. The SRTM file I used only just covered the southern part of the island, which is quite small, the rest is just sea at 0 metres. There is only one .hgt file for the area. So I am beginning to think that Condor does not like terrain generated from an area with no or limited core terrain data.
I guess that I will give up trying to fly around the Ascension Island
Attached is the scenery area in LE.

Re: Scenery problem
I'm afraid you're gonna have to do a "Big Ascension 2" scenery, like I had to do "Big Elba 2".... ...

Why do you have so much water around the island? If you need it, at least put the island at the middle of the scenery. This will solve the problem.
Cheers,

Re: Scenery problem
That is the problem with islands, they are surrounded by water. So inconvenient.

remember also on nonflyable border at the edge of scenery
Re: Scenery problem
Fixed it!
As I guessed the problem was the terrain. I was making a Condor scenery area larger than the terrain data that I had.
I was using SRTM .hgt files. There was only one for the area I needed (S08W015) and this file only just covered the South of the Island.
So how to extend the terrain data to enable me to create the Condor area I wanted?
I guessed that the .hgt file derived its goeref from the title, so I made a copy of the file and called it S09W015.
Using QGIS I merged it successfully with the S08 file and this enabled me to set the Condor area within the terrain data confines.
Not saying that this is the only reason that the "scenery not registered" error comes up, but worked for me.
