Perlan 2 : new (unofficial) altitude record

Post by Bre901 » Mon Aug 27, 2018 7:50 am

On August 26, Perlan 2 broke the altitude record set last year: Jim Payne and Morgan Sandercock reached an altitude of at least 62,426 feet (19,227m) from El Calafate (AR)

The release took place at 42,500 feet (13,090 m), it sure helps to have a stratospheric towplane

Yes, in or close to the polar vortex.

Perlan 2 was one of my suggestions for future gliders, maybe they would be interested in widening their communication actions by supplying a 3D model from their CAD (they surely have one).

I read somewhere that at the altitudes they fly, the air density is about the same as close to the ground on Mars,
