Sisteron - Mont Blanc task

Post by ddunwoody » Sun Jun 18, 2006 6:17 pm

Has anyone managed to complete this?

I got as far as the Mt Blanc turning point, only to be disappointed to find I couldn't get above 4080m in the thermals, which was about 30-40m too low to reach the turnpoint, and about 200m too low to be able to round it.

There's no ridge or wave around - has anyone managed to round this turnpoint? I was rather looking forward to a fast return leg. :)

I've got a lovely screenshot of me landed on Mt Blanc just below the turnpoint, too. :D

Hi David,

I didn't try the track myself, as if I am not wrong is 300some kmts, and I there are usually 0 to 1 people doing the task (I like to fly tasks with many users).

However: have you tried to dump some ballast? In many cases you can get some 100s extra mts that way...

You only have to enter the tp sector and then leave it.. The back of the sector has terrain below 2400m ! You don't need to be anywhere near the tp height.

D'oh!

I'm so used to clipping round the TP to minimise distance...

Thanks, Chris.

HI I just managed it.

On my second attempt.

I too was dispairing finding the wave. But it is there in front of Mont Blanc and a little to the North -- It moves backwards as you climb -- I made just over 18,000 feet. watch out though you have to decend to get the turning point !

The way to climb the wave is in the classic figure of eight. I used markers also on a PDA to show wherew the lift was.

Dont dispair try again.

A very interesting flight. On the third try, I was able to climb the east face of TP8 and Mont Blanc in "ridge lift" to reach the turn points. "Race Time" was 1:33 hr at 85kt average using an ASW-22 with 250lbs of ballast.
