Task thermANDwave is finished now!
A new task "tricky wave" (server: RH's tricky wave) will be online for about 1 week. Weak thermals, but many strong and sometimes weak waves!

Hi Berblinger,
I thought I would pay my respect and try your tricky wave task.
It was my test-drive on Patch7 and it works perfectly.
The task is tricky indeed, TP1 was partly covered in a cloud when I arrived there.
That's where my 4 penalty points come from.
Overall: Nice task!
I did 239,3 km/h, but I think that can be improved.

Task "tricky wave" is finished.
A new task "wave at similaun glacier" (rh's similaun wave) will be online for about one week.
Very easy sunday flying with very strong waves.
You need Eastern Alps Patch 1.1 but the patch is worth installing it anyway.
Results as usual at:

I just forgot to set a maximum start height. Though few pilots started with an altitude of more than 2400m.thermal wrote: The task is tricky indeed, I did 239,3 km/h, but I think that can be improved.

Task "wave at similaun" is closed! And the winner is thermal (239,4 km/h average speed), cg!
A new task "wave at piz palue" will be now online for about one week.
Much harder than task "wave at similaun", cause waves are rare and weak and ... piz palue massif will not give way!

Task "wave at piz palue" is completed after one week online! And the winner is thermal (202,5 km/h average speed), cg!
The next task "wave at ortler" (Bolzano - Samedan: Straight distance to a declared goal, 106,7 km) starts at saturday afternon and will be online for about one week.
Trickier than task "wave at piz palue", cause waves are rare and weak, thermals just moderate and ... just like piz palue massif, ortler group will not give way! Make height on first part of task. Around Ortler thermals are rare. Cloud base is too low to gain sufficient height to fly over ortler group. Use waves, even if they're weak. Plan carefully course, water load and plane class.

Okay, read somewhere in the forum that if one sets difficult weather conditions like moderate thermals, just few will try the task and few are able to finish. So the task "wave at ortler" will stay online for one more week, ... but with much easier conditions: The task "rh's ortler fast'n easy" (strong and very wide thermals, strong waves and ridge lifts) starts saturday afternoon.
Make height before start. Around Ortler thermals are rare, use waves. Last 30 km dolphin like style across the valleys is possible with open class (helpful if altitude is equal to or little above ridge height). To be fast plan carefully course, water load and plane class.

Hee, I'm not so sure about that.Berblinger wrote:... that if one sets difficult weather conditions like moderate thermals, just few will try the task and few are able to finish.
Remember the ZA: Ridge Record task?
There were no thermals at all there, and still it became rather popular.
Unfortunately, I had no time to try your new task last week.
Never mind how difficult it was originally, since I already had the Piz Palue renamed into "Piz ZA" and the Similaun glacier into "ZA glacier" I thought it would have been nice to have a "ZA Gruppe" as well.
I don't know what the weather conditions were originally set to, but I had a look at your map, and I think even now it is very tricky indeed.
If I find the time, I will have a go at it.

Task "rh's ortler fast'n easy" will be closed at 12:00, Saturday 8. April.
In our next task "rh's dolomites" we visit Marmolada, Tofana (we throw a glance at Tofana di Rozes) and Sella Group. With moderate and wide thermals, many moderate waves and moderate ridge lifts the task is not to hard but for high average speed you have to optimize your tactics
Wait a moment, let's see what other task might come next
Aaah, on thursday, 13. April I've got an Easter Egg for you but just one day!
Go and see how many black coloured Easter Eggs you can collect

After collecting some eastereggs in tremendous lifts on Good Friday (Leon got 38 m/s) you should try JJJ's waves he found near Samedan.
As usual 150 km/h average speed should be no problem. But don't speed up too much at first leg!

Leaving the Dolomites and JJJ's waves in the Engadine Alps we head west to the Savoy and Valais Alps.
Two alternating tasks ("mont blanc" and "4x4 thousand") offer you views of Gran Paradiso, Mont Blanc, Grand Combin and Breithorn. All with more than 4000m.
BTW: Conditions are bombastic. Waves everywhere and very strong. No need for using thermals.

Summer Recess Recess
Pylon Race above Grenoble with a triangle to be circled twice. Each corner of the triangle is made up of two close pylons (turnpoints) with windows perpendicular to each other. At second circle the windows get a little bit larger, in order that you are able to clearly recognize the current pylon. Therewith no hazardous manoeuvres are necessary. The windows of each pylons are at the same height Task length about 50 km. Within 15 minutes easily to be finished, because you are in "free fall" through wave and ridge lifts.
