I could help my wife, do some housework, go to office but it seems that i have to revive this task. I think biggest capablities to optimize and speed up you have at the pass near klagenfurter hue. The course of martin (tinchote) seems perfect as he passes this point with more than 200 km/h

and now after second attempt:

Task time: 00:07:37
Average speed: 249.62 km/h

no chance to stop count down from average speed 270 km/h to 249 km/h at final glide

I've made a few tries with the "fast and low". It took me a while to find a decent path, and I'm still not sure how optimum my choices are. So far I did it in 31:26, at 180.03 km/h.

Race is on. This is the Lesce 100 triangle of Condor's default flightplans:
"A 100 km FAI triangle on which a world speed record was set in the past"
Does anyone know the results?

Start procedure is shortened but initial conditions remain unchanged. The crux (key position) of this task is marked with a black oval in the attached screenshot of the flightanalysis. Don't start (glidersymbol) with less than 1650m to cross the pass!
May be we can force up one another 8) up to 250km/h!
May the wave be with you!

It was a 15 meter world record at 181.54 in 1999. It was bettered to 234km/h by Jim Payne in 2000. In any case JP had already flown at 217km/h in a Discus in 1997 (I guess he only claimed the record in the open class?)

Berblinger, regarding the course it's interesting that the two paths that I have used don't go through the point you mention. I've only managed to go it at 193km/h in both, so maybe that's my problem! :wink:

Gave the original task a chance (used the thermal at start, flew through another one in final glide). Got around it at 7:29, but I did use some tricks I wouldnt use irl.. :oops: ..and I had flutter on wings almost all around the course. :twisted:
First time I actually managed to get round it, so I figure it can be done a lot faster still.

TIMING:
Start time: 11:00:00
Flight time: 00:11:26
Task start: 11:02:26
Task completed OK.
Task time: 00:07:29
Average speed: 254.09 km/h

Good job. And you are right, it is possible to do it faster. In fact, I did a run to it in 7:18, narrowly missing the height at the second turn point by jumping the cliff too early ("flying" with one of your daughters in your lap and the other two cheering for broken wings is not the perfect situation for a record :wink: )

Maybe tonight I'll give it a try to see if I can do it.

:lol:

But good for a bonus (winning margin) of let's say 30 seconds (10 for each daughter) because of complicated conditions :lol:

We should host this task again and see what we can master when in multiplayer mode. Hint: put your daughters to bed!

Ciao

edit:
this damned sim and in particular this task prevent me from doing my work at office

So I gave it a try with no girls on my lap nor cheering crowd (although I had to pause twice to attend the little one :) ) and

TIMING:
Start time: 11:00:00
Flight time: 00:11:23
Task start: 11:02:43
Task completed OK.
Task time: 00:07:19
Average speed: 259.48 km/h

Yesterday i hosted 2 of the classic task. I myself failed :oops: (blame on me) as i wasn't below 1800 at 1. tp. winner was (forgot the name) with 229km/h. Most other crashed or didn't finish. Seems that you have to practice, just to finish this task and online is (i think so) a liitle bit more difficult. I was really nervous.
259 is outstanding with or without daughters. So missus :oops: has to go alone to party at weekend :D

I don't doubt that it is harder to "fly" when online with others than when you are alone.

So, how do you get to know when someone is hosting a race?

At the moment you can't. But as posted somewhere in the forums there will be more information available in the server list. A workaround is to code specific information in the server name, like "vertigo tricky triangle" (task created by vertigo) and so on. Further information can be found in task description of the flight planner. Occasionally i will host the "short race". To avoid mistaking this task for tasks with similar names i suggest the name "crazy race 250km/h"
Time frame will be from 19:00 to 22:00 (GMT), hopefully today (16.12.2005)

By the way, what's your timezone?

when the avg speed at that task gets over Vne, I will stop flying it :D

I just keep breaking planes on trying the very perfect start, does the following sound familiar?
"uhm, startline closing in and I really need to get 10m lower.." M.Kuusisto ripped wings off.. :p

I hope I will be able to join an online instance of this short race. If you don't mind, I might try and host it myself one of these days. My timezone will be a problem, as I am in Canada at GMT-8

So today I revisited the shortrace, and

RaceID=613468524
StartTime=11:00:00
FlightTime=00:11:30
TaskStart=11:02:29
TaskTime=00:07:14
Finished=1
DistanceFlown=31.71 km
AverageSpeed=262.85 km/h
PenaltyPoints=0.0
GhostCount=0

It is certainly possible to go faster, as I lost a couple seconds recovering from the tigh turn in the first turnpoint, and most important I crossed the last turn point with 660 meters (which was perfectly avoidable).
