3314km with Alpi3

Post by Didivolk66 » Sat Mar 06, 2010 11:31 am

Wow
Finally found a long distance in Alpi3  . 3314km Bad Ragaz to Mt Blanc then to Chur and back to Mt Blanc. Alpi3 is sure the best scenery. Fying feels like in rl :P (Except the north eastern part the texture is not up to the standard). Bit difficult to find the way between Andermatt and Münster. 15h great scenery worth the try :D . (track can be downloaded from pilot ranking list).
I still wonder how some guys fly wave on long distance. Advice would be welcome

Is it really possible to average 118 kts, or 136 mph over a 15 hour period in a glider in real life or Condor? I don't know a lot about mountain flying, so maybe those speeds are possible over that time frame with a high wind velocity. Is the plane in or close to flutter all the time? Would a real glider last that long at those speeds?

Hi Binky
I tried for my own fun to be as real as possible. Not to get up. To satisfy your bodily needs as you would in a plane .
Yes flutter is a problem  . Condor has a real problem you get more lift or get in a thermal the nose will go down so you listen to the beep all time if it gets up lift the nose (Condor as said in other discussions has aerodynamical flaws). But to get an average of 218km/h you need not to fly on the edge. It is a real task to sit that long I wouldn't do that more then once in a year. But I will try 3500km Jan next year and make sure to be fit to do it. 1000km is fine once in a while (<5h). But 2000km or more is pain in the butt.. I think LS10 is best you need not to mess around to much with the flaps.
try the 1000km once.
Regards Didi
