What may I ask is the point of this photo? If it is real it is in very poor taste as the pilot clearly was about to have a nasty accident. If it's fake (and I suspect it is) it adds nothing to our store of knowledge of flying and might even encourage foolish pilots to indulge in this sort of thing. Beat-ups are the preserve of fools and show-offs and in most clubs in the UK will get you a lengthy 'grounding'.

Both photos are demonstrating a telephoto lens effect. Beyond the fact that the objects in the photo were in the photographer's line of sight, the loss of depth information means that you can't infer much about the real situation pictured in either photo.

Yes, telephoto lens effect sometimes gets you really confused. The most confusion i felt here: http://cdn-www.airliners.net/aviation-p ... 640853.jpg . But photo in the root message can't be explained by this effect. I doubt that it is produced by Photoshop.

I have been looking for the flightsafety bulletin June 2011 on http://www.bfu-web.de. Indeed there is an Duo Discus incident reported on page 7 for June 4th. But this happened at a different place, which is called Boitze.

Funny that people are convinced this is not a tele lens effect..
Those trees at Hahnweide are apple trees. Look at the trees behind the glider, they are quite small.
So the tree in front of the glider appears bigger, just because it's closer to the lens.

This exactly why i don't believe that it is real photo. With tele lens effect that trees would be nearly the same size.

Tim's right, this is a real photo of a more or less normal approach there. No photoshop, no crash
