Post by BeastFromTheEast » Tue Jan 16, 2018 10:55 pm

Thanks guys ...... I was in the hospital earlier today and she is looking much better, although not yet fit for discharge as I was hoping.

Normal service should be resumed next Tuesday.

Task Map, people:
Hampshire 122k.jpg
There will be a stiff south-westerly to contend with, so not quite the walk in the park it looks. Course notes to follow - note there are 100 points/min penalties for cloud flying

Club class, see you 1900h.

task 23 01 18 start and first TP

Post by BeastFromTheEast » Tue Jan 23, 2018 4:19 pm

Start point is in Alton which is about 5k south-east of Lasham. Start height top limit is 1600m QNH (5200')
Alton start point marked up.jpg
Once turned track NW towards Membury passing south of both Basingstoke and Newbury. The wind will be pushing you north all the time so don't fret too much if Newbury seems too far distant - concentrate on converging with the westbound M4 motorway.

task 23 01 18 second TP

Post by BeastFromTheEast » Tue Jan 23, 2018 4:29 pm

Once Membury is turned track SSE towards Andover, which appears as a dull grey splodge on the A303 dual carriageway.
Andover marked up.jpg
Chilbolton is a bit difficult to pick out. SE of Andover is a junction on the A303. If you track directly south from it Chilbolton is about 7km further on.

task 23 01 18

Post by BeastFromTheEast » Tue Jan 23, 2018 10:38 pm

One deceptively tough task, that one: didn't seem anything like that hard when test flying it last night.

Andy1248 LS4-b 01:13:56 99.30 km/h
BeastFromTheEast Libelle H201b 01:22:58 88.50 km/h
RobBob - landed somewhere close to an award winning gastro pub, and had a wondrous meal while waiting for the trailer to arrive

Meanwhile, Lasham was living up to its name, as the CFI gave Beast 12 lashes for thermalling away from below circuit height. Next time, it will be the ultimate punishment - rigging a K8.

Task here if anyone else fancies a go:

Next week's task will be Paul's suggestion of Lasham - Abingdon Bridge - Sandhills Farm and back to Lasham. (I assume, Paul, you meant ABN rather than ABD). I will turn the difficully level back a notch but would like to keep the same format of no navaids, unless there is violent dissent.

I hope that Ian does not mind, but I would like to use this thread to notify UK flyers of another new scenery in the pipeline. Hopefully one that can be used once again for Beastly Soaring evenings.

The inspiration came from Chris Vincent's Scotland HD and initially was going to be a photo conversion of that scenery with his approval. However I have decided to go larger and produce a Scotland scenery with a bit extra.

I have attached a map showing the area covered and some screenshots (Glasgow, Edinburgh, Portmoak and the Cairngorms).

I am about half way to completion so will be a few weeks yet. Not sure if Ian will be able to make some wave tasks work!

For some reason I am having trouble getting the Glasgow screen shot to upload. Scenery coverage map is in this post also.

Task 30 01 18

Post by BeastFromTheEast » Tue Jan 30, 2018 11:54 am

Those shots looks pretty good Andy ....... out of interest, is there any overlap with the Eden scenery.

Unfortunately this evening looks doubtful as I have been called back up to Ipswich: Mum is again very ill. If I cannot make it the map is attached so you can fly in my absence.

task 06 02 18

Post by BeastFromTheEast » Mon Feb 05, 2018 6:45 pm

Evening chaps,

Should be up for Beastliness tomorrow - do people want to fly the task above, and do we want PDA, no PDA but barberpoles, or no navaids at all?

Paul said he was interested in flying this one in real life so I would go for the latter.

Ian

EDIT: I watched the first episode of the new series of Endeavour last night (the Inspector Morse prequel). While it plays no part in the plot, one of the characters is a glider pilot - see below.

Hi Ian. I am Ok for tomorrow night. Happy for it to be a no PDA, no poles. Going on last time it does make the shorter tasks more challenging.

Starting point - Lasham Church (south-west of the airfield)
Lasham Church.jpg
Bear NNE over Basingstoke and Reading and then towards Abingdon. As you get closer you should see the Rutherford Appleton Laboratories off to the west and the A34 dual carriageway. The bridge is on the south-east edge of Abingdon:
