Introduction:

In the skies of virtual gliding, where dreams take flight and the thrill of competition knows no bounds, we proudly introduce the 1st FAI Virtual World Gliding Championship in 2024. This celestial celebration promises to be an epic showcase of talent, passion, and the indomitable spirit of competition. Join us on this extraordinary journey through the virtual skies as we explore four distinctive facets of this historic event. The competition is scheduled in three phases, from February to November.

Qualifiers: Open and Free to all competitors worldwide

The Qualifiers, an open invitation to pilots from around the world, beckon with the promise of free entry for all. In this inclusive arena, where inclusivity reigns supreme, participants will navigate a series of six thrilling races. These races, thoughtfully divided into three pairs of two consecutive days each, will provide a riveting journey through the virtual skies, testing the mettle of virtual pilots. Within the Qualifiers, excellence is the guiding principle, and adherence to the Qualifying Virtual Sailplane Grand Prix rules ensures a level playing field. The quest for the podium beckons, with the top three pilots from each race earning their coveted spots in the Pro Championship.

Pro Championship: The 20 best in a close contest

The Pro Championship, the realm where champions are forged, may require a nominal entry fee as participants invest in their journey towards greatness. This phase is a heart-pounding showdown, comprising six exhilarating races spread across three pairs of two consecutive days each. Set against the backdrop of April and May, these races promise to test the limits of virtual gliding skill. Pilots who conquer the Qualifiers will ascend to the Pro Championship, where excellence knows no bounds. Upholding the prestigious World Virtual Sailplane Grand Prix rules, the Pro Championship offers a world-class competitive experience, nurturing the emergence of gliding legends.

World Final: our first on-stage event at Interglide forum

The pinnacle of this epic journey arrives with the World Final, an event that promises to redefine gliding excellence. The Pro Championship podium finishers receive golden invitations to this prestigious event, which unfolds against the picturesque backdrop of Karlsruhe, Germany, on November 10th and 11th, 2024. The World Final isn't just about virtual glory; it's an exclusive on-stage experience that brings the virtual world to life. Witness the thrill as the races are showcased at the Interglide forum, captivating the public and the gliding community. FAI medals and diplomas await the valiant winners of the World Final, adding their names to the annals of gliding history.

Nationals Event Within the 1st FAI Virtual WGC: A Global Platform

The 1st FAI Virtual World Gliding Championship isn't just a global spectacle; it's also a platform for nations to shine. National Airsport Control organizations (NACs) are encouraged to designate this event as their primary stage for crowning their National Champion. NACs lacking technical infrastructure can collaborate with FAI Virtual Gliding to orchestrate their nationals within this grand event, making it accessible to their pilots. The Qualifiers will host a distinct score table featuring national pilots engaged in the competition, officially designating a National Champion. It's a unique opportunity for nations to showcase their gliding prowess on the world stage.

Conclusion:

As we prepare to embark on this extraordinary adventure, remember, it's not just about the destination—it's about the journey, the camaraderie, and the pursuit of excellence. The 1st FAI Virtual World Gliding Championship in 2024 promises to be an odyssey that will forever be etched in the annals of virtual gliding history. I recently saw the announcement on your social media profiles:

The first 6 instead of previously first 3 pilots of each race will be selected for the pro championship.

This is something I would have really liked to know beforehand. I mean what is this? Changing rules after the races have been finished?? And iirc the reason to that was "an unexpectedly high level of competitors" . I mean, come on, what type of reasoning is this? This isn't even something unpredictable.

Even though this doesnt directly affect the results of each of the qualifying races, I bet many pilots (myself included) would have chosen a drastically different approach on the applied strategy. I went high risk all the time, since top 3 is MUCH harder to score than top 6, let alone a continous classic scoring.

I know this is kind of a rant here, but I had expected a more professional approach on this offical FAI series. Please do the rules and calculations BEFORE the races and if you are changing something, don't reverse-apply it to previous races.

As I understand, the world final will take place next week-end in Karlsruhe.
Will that be on Condor 3 ?

Who are the six finalists ?

So??
Since below communication from Antoine nothing was change in this topic:
Dear Pilots,
Dear Marcin, Davis, Frank,

I hope this message finds you well. It is with deep regret that I must inform you of an unexpected development concerning the 1st FAI Virtual WGC 2024 - World Final 2024.

We received the shocking news yesterday that the Interglide event, where the grand finale of our championship was supposed to take place, has been cancelled. This news came as a complete surprise to us, especially as we had two productive meetings with Condor and Thrustmaster just before the weekend to finalize the plans for the Final. Everything seemed to be progressing smoothly, and we were looking forward to our final meeting with Markus from Interglide early this week, which unfortunately did not happen.

We are currently evaluating our options and working diligently to develop a Plan B and Plan C. There is a possibility that we may need to postpone the Final event to align it with another 'real on-stage' event. Rest assured, we are exploring every avenue to ensure the Final takes place in the best possible manner.

We will provide you with more information and proposals by the end of the month, and hopefully sooner. In the meantime, if you have any suggestions or ideas, please feel free to share them with us. We are truly saddened by this turn of events, as we have invested a tremendous amount of energy and passion into this project.

Additionally, I want to remind you that all the news articles and highlights from the Pro Championship races are available on our website. Please feel free to share these with your friends and gliding associations. However, I will need to amend the latest news to reflect the cancellation of our participation in Interglide.

I plan to meet with Markus soon to understand the circumstances behind this early cancellation, which I believe is related to funding issues.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support. We will keep you updated as we navigate through this challenge.

Warm regards,

Antoine Havet

Hello everyone,

Sorry for the late reply, I am just seeing your posts now.
We have delayed the World Final event until further notice, as we are seeking another organizer.

The event was supposed to take place on-site at the newly introduced 'Interglide' event.
Unfortunately, the Interglide has been cancelled a few months ago and we did not find a solution yet to conclude this event.

The focus right now for the team is on the Olympic Esports 2025, and we have submitted an official bid to the IOC a week ago.
We are waiting for a reply in the coming hours.

Further announcement will come soon, please do enjoy Condor 3 and train as much as you can, before we announce the next steps and calendar for 2025!

Thanks for your understanding,
Antoine

It will depend on the outcome with the Esports Olympic, we are expecting more news soon.
We will probably only do short events this Winter for the time being, to discover Condor 3 together, on both pilots and organization sides.

Have a good evening,
Antoine

I wouldnt hold my breath. Esports Olympic seems like pie in the sky; we currently struggle with ordinary CC competitions (or even daily tchintchin races). Never say never, but IMHO, this is way too soon and we should be focused on improving condor and regular races/competitions before attempting to sway a wider audience. Im not even convinced that is feasible; how many of you watch sailing races? Now imagine that being a simulator. No matter how good the sim. the appeal is inherently quite limited.

Just a question about FAI Virtual Gliding.
Who are the members of this federation ? I am not speaking of people, but of clubs, organisations, etc. Are for example, Tchin Tchin, task organisers as Poland team, Condor café members of this federation ?
In other words who or which organisations do FAI Virtual Gliding represents ?

I also noticed that their web site is not very active : I just saw that the "prestigious World Final eventwill take place in Karlsruhe, Germany, on November 9th and 10th, 2024. l also can become a sponsor.......

Hi everyone,

Wow, tough to read such weird messages here, did we not communicate enough on the launch of FAI Virtual Gliding in 2021/2022?
Do you really wonder what it is when it has been widely presented through different livestreamings?

Maybe you can have a look at what FAI means?
Might get an answer maybe here otherwise: https://www.virtualgliding.fai.org/about

Come on, the work of everyone here, including the Condor Team deserves much more respect than what some of you may think.
Do you ever think or have a look at what is being done before talking here?

What do you know about the bid of the Olympic Esports if it is not even public? How can you judge about the feasability of the operation without knowing anything about the guidelines of the bid? Can you imagine how much work it has been to create this bid in a limited time? You probably can't, and all of that is done voluntarily by a very small team so that our sport can grow in the future.

Discussions are on-going, we have nothing to communicate so far, and the entire planning of 2025 relies on the choice of the IOC.
News should come soon, it should have been before the end of december, but it has been delayed to January 2025, which is still in the correct timeframe. That's why there is 'no news' so far.

About the World Final in Germany, there has been a communication towards the pilots around it a few months ago.
There is no solution yet, and as explained, it is obviously not a priority at the moment.

Hope this message helps to understand the moment we are living in so far.
We think that the community has enough races daily races with tchintchin and a good event running with CWC so far, to discover C3.
We would have liked to get some more events on Condor 3, but there is other work that must be done on our side at the moment, I hope you understand it.

But don't worry, we will be back soon!
Have a good day and a happy new year to everyone.

Enjoy C3!
Antoine

PS: sponsors are much appreciated for the development and promotion of Virtual Gliding, and I would like to say that we are always open to recruit new members who are willing to work on the initiative. Project managers, task setters, production team... there is always a place for anyone who wants to get involved!
