Crystal light

Post by ryanto » Thu Oct 03, 2024 10:38 am

Hello,

Following the update of Windows, and the fact that at some point my G2 cable will break again, I was wondering if the crystal light is the best current VR update or not ?

I understood here (https://www.condorsoaring.com/forums/vi ... 07#p186011) that currently it does not work with Condor ? No one found a word around like for the G2?

Thank you!

I thought the Crystal Light worked with the same software platform the G2 does?

Like all headsets you never know till its on your own head, but from what I have seen in reviews this looks a good upgrade to the G2. The only thing that slightly puts me off is the size of the head scaffolding!, it looks so bulky I don't think my over ear Sennheisers would go over the top.

If your refering to my comment

Oh by the way, I know your using a Pimax Crystal Light, you cant use that. You'll need to buy a second headset, possibly not as good quality..............the caveat sort of sours the deal some what!

I was having a conversation with someone hypothetically about the hassle of getting a none Oculus headset to work. I cant say for sure if the Pimax would work with Condor or not. I wouldnt recommend Condor to someone who I know does not have an Oculus.

It does work on my G2. Could someone confirm that the same trick works (or not) ?

I've been using my Pimax Crystal Light for some weeks now in Condor 2. I used to have the Valve Index and played many hundreds of hours in that, the Crystal Light is a big step up in clarity and resolution.

I use SteamVR + ReVive, it's not difficult, but you have to know a little about VR software and setup to make it work in practice.

I really hope that Condor 3 will be supporting VR better than Condor 2, with OpenXR or at least native SteamVR support in addition to the Meta Oculus/Vive software.

Good to know ! By any chance, you wrote down somewhere the different steps to do to make it work ? Right know my G2 works, but next time the cable breaks, I will not replace and I will probably buy a crystal light.

Sorry, not in detail, I found all the info needed on these forums by a little searching. It's basically just get Steam and install SteamVR, then install ReVive, and use the revive injector to launch Condor (I made a script for this) There's also the Condor2 revive extension/plugin for browsers to launch condor multiplayer links directly with the injector. - https://github.com/TheGreatCabbage/cond ... -extension

does this setup of steam vr and revive allow you to drag additional windows to have things like External PDA window in your virtual cockpit.

I use Quest 3 and have LK8000 in my cockpit like in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Q9YQ0Z9W_o

Can I do something similar with Crystal?

https://github.com/piopawlu/pda-injector there is this project that injects xcsoar/lk8000 into condor2, regardless of headset.

I'm also planning to buy Crystal light, and it's very frivolous of the developer to hide such information, what they will support

Really? I would never spent a lot of money for a thing that I maybe can use in future. Maybe there is a better one in that time, when I can use it.

And if I would be responsible for the development, I would never say what I will support in future, only what I support now.

If the devs say today, they will support that headset in future, and you buy it, because of what they said, and there will be a (valid or not) reason why they don't do it, you will maybe forge a refund because of the wrong information. Would you take that risk? I won't!

So I absolute understand the way of information. It's ready when it's ready, and it's available what is available.

Sorry, my 5 cent

P.S. In my active RL flying time (it's very long ago) it was said, good glider pilots have to be very patient. It looks like this time is gone ...
