recommended headset?
Hi all,
I am totally new to VR and the only reason I'd buy it Condor. My current hardware is RX 7600 and Ryzen 7 7800x3d. What I am looking for is clear picture with minimum stutter and subsequently minimum eye strain (truth to say, making it hard for my eyes is the very reason I was avoiding VR so far, this is something that honestly scares me). I already have presbyopia to some extent, is it possible to wear glasses inside the headset or set the headset optics to compensate?
With the above in mind, what would be an ideal choice for me?
Also I noticed some people mentioned facebook account and battery life in connection to Oculus/Meta headsets. Do I need a fb account? Can I fly using a cable connection and thus having the headsed permanently charged?
Thanks in advance.

Re: recommended headset?
Hello
Sadly the current official VR system works only with the Oculus Rift software which restricts the choice of headset. You can if inclined shoe horn other headsets to work with the use of additional programs, this however is not 100% and not without problems or frustration setting up.
I have used the Oculus2 now Reverb G2 which is a far better headset but requires the Heath Robinson fix. My eye is now on the Pimax Crystal Light, but sadly again not supported.
I also Sim Race so my choice of headset priority does not need to match Condor2's restriction, I just want the best headset I can afford. Apparently the devs are not changing the VR support for Condor3, which is a real shame.

Re: recommended headset?
They said they won't do it with the Condor 3 update, but after that.
Sounds logical to me. The Condor 3 update is for sure a huge one, and it will not be earlier done, if you put even more changes into it. I haven't searched for the post, but it's here somewhere in the forum.

Re: recommended headset?
Hi everyone
I will try to answer your question "briefly":
I suggest you to wait for the Condor 3 new VR implementation, so we will know the hardware specifications, and if at last it will use Steam VR as native software and Openxr supported instead of the out of date Oculus (Meta) software.
There is a very important difference between the latest headsets: To have or to have not DISPLAYPORT.
If you want to fly only Condor 3 sim in VR, I reckon the average PC specs would let you use a Headset without Display Port (DP for short.)
But if the Condor 3 PC specs are high, or If you want to use another flight sims like Digital Combat Simulator, IL2 BOS or il2 Clod, and of course 2024 flight sim simulator the things are different.
In the case of 2024 flight sim, the use of Meta Quest 3 has been banned, due to the lack of Display port. They have used Pymax Crystal Headset to run the sim, because it has Display Port
So, my advice, wait for the Condor 3 new VR patch, and the PCnew speciications, hoping the Openxr are supported.
Well, you don´t want to wait. No problem.
I suggest you three or four options of VR headset to buy (all with Display Port):
1.- Pico 3 Neo Pro with Display port cable (I own one and really runs fine in Condor 2 and other sims like DCS) You can purchase in a 2nd hand website for 250€ or so like I did.
2,. Valve Index (that´s what I am using now, works well in all flight sims) you can buy a 2nd hand unit for 700€ more or less... like I did
3.- Sony PSVR2, now you can use in PC, and you can find it 2nd hand for 350€ or so.
All this Headsets aren´t Oculus native software. They use STEAMVR software, so you have to use other programs to run Condor, but there is a few tutorials in this Forum, so it´s not too difficult if you follow the instructions.
Well, I hope this "brief" answer can help you decide what to do...
Goodbye and gooood flights

I read somewhere here that the VR support in Condor3 was not changing and they have no plans to change it?

Re: recommended headset?
I spent a little bit of time to search and found that one. It's not exact that I remember, but there isn't said that it will not be changed (ok, it's more than 3 years old, but matches to the C3 development time)

Re: recommended headset?
Hi Dan, my two cents,
i'm fairly new to VR too. Over the years i made 2 attempts with the oculus rift, but i returned them each time, because i was not impressed/sattisfied with the optic (fresnel lenses) and performance.
2 Month ago i made a 3rd attempt with the oculus 3, and that was super (for me). Being new too VR, i wanted something that works right out of the box. And that the Oculus does very well.
During the first days i made a mistake sometimes to start condor without having the quest3 turned on and therefore not being connected, but after realising that, the headset worked every time since.
So long story short, there are headsets out there that are defenetly more capable than the Oculus/Quest ones. But in my opinion, you get a reliable system for a reasonable price.
(And after a few weeks, also integrating cotasa and XCSOR only takes about 10-15 seconds now.
(openXR will be integrated in condor3, but that will probabely take some time.)

Re: recommended headset?
Thanks for the input guys. Putting everything together, I suppose I will wait for the Condor 3 and the patch that will add the VR support and then will decide on the headset, the Oculus 3 being the likely choice but we shall see.

Re: recommended headset?
Quest 3 is fully supported from the release date of Condor3, just like it is now in Condor2. Other headsets will work the same as they do with Condor2. It is only openXR that will be added in a later patch to have native support for non Rift/Quest headsets.

Re: recommended headset?
I have been flying with a htc vive pro2 with a program called revive [0].
This emulates an occulus headset and therefore works with condor2, flawlessly.
The headset´s 5k resolution does require some GPU power, but i can literally read the winter serial number on the ASI... The performance is butter smooth with an amd rtx 6900. All running on windows 10 (i would prefeer linux).
I used this pda injector [1] to insert XCSoar into the cockpit. This works fantastically, especially with the latests xcsoar versions that have rescaling infobox titles / values [2].
