Pimax Crystal VR HMD seems to be a problem with Condor2...

Post by everest-101 » Tue Mar 12, 2024 6:19 am

Not sure if I should invest in buying Condor2!

After doing a search in this forum about VR with Pimax Crystal HMD in Condor2, I noticed that many Crystal owners seem be having problems setting things up. It appears to be complex and problematic to be using a Crystal HMD for VR flying with the Condor2 simulator.

I own a Crystal VR HMD. I am impressed with it, use it easily in DCS and MSFS2020 and want to use it in Condor2 but I am seriously wondering if buying Condor2 is worth it if the setups are to be complex and problematic.

Seem to me that Condor2 should support the OpenXR standard (independent of HMD brandings) and not have to deal with Vive/REVIVE or whatever other 3rd party software for displaying in VR...like what DCS or MSFS2020 are simply doing. Anyways, to get back on track, my simple question is...

In this community, are there sim pilots who are using a Pimax Crystal VR HMD and having fun flying sailplanes in the Condor2 flight simulator?

Hello,
i have Pimax Crystal and i play other flight simulations also (DCS, Aerofly 2, MFS, IL 2, VTOL..) and Condor is the must fun i have (but maybe i am little biased becouse i am fan of gliders since i remember :) ).
Condor in VR is really impressiv.
No problems with setup.
Download Revive 3.2.0 (Reviveinstaller.exe) and unzip file.
Download Oculus Home and install (you dont have to register)
Install Steam VR

To start Condor:
Start Oculus Home
Start Steam VR
Then i open two windows. One window is for where you installed Condor and second window where you see unzip Revive files. Click and drag Condor.exe icon into Revive window and hover over Reviveinjector.exe icon, release the mouse button and Condor is running.
Once in Condor go to setup/graphics/setup vr and check the Oculus Rift box.

If you buy Condor 2 now you will have free upgrade to Condor 3.
AFAIK Condor 3 will have native support for other HMDs.

Mekof,

I purchased a Pimax Crystal recently with the intention of using almost exclusively with Condor. I may play with MSFS or other sim but its Condor soaring that I am really after.

So thank you very, very much for the specific instructions on install and starting it up! I am really looking forward to getting it up and running

But .... LOL... I have to add that there is nothing simple about the steps you outlined. They sound like a "work around" to me. I have not done enough research or experience with VR to be certain but it sure sounds like support for the OpenXR (or similar) standard would be a great idea.

Simple integration with my VR headset is definitely something that I would pay for . Do you know how this forum community influences priority setting related to new Condor features?

Hello ,
I dont know if that can help, but...
I use a Quest 2 that I Launch through Steam VR because I find that the graphics are more accurate than direct launching in Oculus.
For me the sequence is
Launch Oculus
Launch SteamVR
Launch Condor.
But I launch Condor From the Condor Icon created by ReviveHelper or from the "Join (VR)" button that ReviveHelper has created in the Condor Server LIst on internet.
To have this simple sequence, I have installed ReviveHelper. And this can be slightly tricky (but once installed, transparent and very helpfull). see :
https://www.condorsoaring.com/forums/vi ... 3&start=15.
Anyway, I hope that V3 will use OpenXR. And I hope super graphics with it.

jLN,

When do you launch Pimax service? Before you launch Oculus?

Thanks

As I said I have not a Pimax headset but a Quest 2

I start my Quest and I launch Oculus on the PC. (or reverse, Oculus waits for a link).
I link from the Quest to the PC with the "airlink" (would be the same with a usb cable but airlink works very well and I can feed my headset during the flight for long (more than 1 hour) flights and safety)
I launch SteamVR on the PC. I check on the headset that I am in.
I launch Condor on the PC. direct or via Condorsoaring server list. (As I said I use ReviveHelper which works automatically once installed)
I set the options on Condor on the PC.
I sit in my glider and I launch Condor on my PC. I put the headset and wait...I am in
I hope that can help.

Yes, first Pimax service then everything else. Steam VR is also accesible inside Pimax service.

Mekof,

Your directions worked like a charm, each time without a problem over several restarts, etc.
Its actually much easier to do than is seemed when I first read your instructions.

I am now up and running. :D

Thanks again!

VR users,
  • Is there a VR FPS(frame rate) counter key binding in Condor2? A keystroke to show the FPS obtained during a VR session. I am still perplexed by the level of drivers needed to make the VR working with the Pimax Crystal feel that using Oculus Home software + Revive Helper + Steam VR must have an impact on the VR frame rates in the game. So, is a frame counter available in game to test game performance (to some extent)?
  • Also, is there a head re-centering key binding to bring head back to looking forward in the sailplane? With the HMD on our heads, this re-centers the VR view to look forward in the plane...very useful feature (a must!) in VR.
I am still under reflection to buy Condor2 but answers and tips provided in this posting are getting me closer to positive buying decision.

Thanks Mekof and all others for your feedback which helps me in my continuing reflections...

I get a error message that pops up every time I try to fire up flying in Condor2...

Image
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1AyTxvi ... drive_link

Just installed Condor and struggling to get it going with the Pimax Crystal...rrrrg!
Followed the steps for installing :
- Oculus Rift Software (without registering with the META site),
- ReviveInstaller,
- SteamVR was already installed with PimaxPlay app.

+ I turned of PimaxXR so that SteamVR becomes the VR runtime for the HMD. Sad to realize I may have to turn off OpenXR every time I want to run Condor!!! Hope OpenXR gets supported in C3.

PS...MSAA is disabled in C2 setup VR GUI...yet does not help. Still get the error message!

The CONDOR manual talks about putting REVIVE/REVIVE files into the Condor install folder!!! REVIVE installer made a big folder called REVIVE in my program files (X64) folder with DLLs, the ReviveInjector.exe, and numerous sud-folders. Do I need to copy all that content into the Condor installation folder!?! That sounds crazy!!!

I have the feeling that something really simple needs to be done but have no idea what that is!

Crystal users, someone, thanks for clarifying...

I have made many iterations and testing regarding using my Pimax Crystal with Condor2.
Will be reporting very soon on my results by making a small PDF.
Thanks to all who have helped out in smoothening the learning curve.

Back soon...
