New Meta Quest 3 VR Headset
Hi. I’m currently planning out a simulator cockpit and all the computer hardware. Also considering a VR headset. It looks like the new Meta/ Oculus Quest 3 VR headset will be release and available on Oct 10 (in 9 days). Does anyone know if the Quest 3 will be compatible with Condor 2. Please let me know. I’m just putting a hardware list together now. Thanks. JN

Re: New Meta Quest 3 VR Headset
Based on the fact that both the Oculus Quest and the Quest 2 both support Oculus/Meta PC VR through 'Quest Link', I am very strongly presuming that the Quest 3 will continue to support PC VR in the same way. In fact, I've preordered a Quest 3 to replace my aging Oculus Quest. As soon as I receive it I will try it and will report the outcome.
However, there are other alternatives that should be usable with the help of Revive and SteamVR. The Pimax Crystal appears quite tempting, and of course, the Varjo Aero recently had a significant price drop that makes it a lot more attractive. Plus there are rumors of the new PC VR headset from Valve, an upcoming Pico 5 whose top variant will have a direct PC connection, there's the BigScreen Beyond that is beginning to ship, there's the pre-announced Immersed headset ...

Just got my Quest 3 today. Haven't been flying Condor 2 for a couple of years and joystick without any assigned buttons but had a short flight and it seems to work as it should and oh boy what a difference from the Rift S i sold a couple of years ago.

I've received my Quest 3, had a couple of short flights in Condor 2 in VR - and it works, flawlessly, with Quest Link, and looks awesome. I'm currently using glasses inside it (and thus have reduced my field of view a touch) but as soon as my prescription lens inserts arrive (a couple of week?) that situation should improve further.cbrunschen wrote: ↑Wed Oct 04, 2023 2:17 pmI've preordered a Quest 3 [...]. Even my ageing gaming laptop (with an RTX 2070 Max-Q) still manages to feed the new Quest 3 at 72Hz, though to get a higher refresh rate and even higher resolution I would need something a bit newer/more powerful.

What resolution are you currently running at? I'd have thought you'd only want to run native resolution of the screens in the VR unit otherwise it'd not look great? That is 2064 x 2208 per eye, which is nice
Either way it sounds like the perfect reason to buy an Nvidia 4090, let us know how it performs once installed

I had a lot of jitter when doing a bit of maneuvering. No matter whether it's through air link or wired.
After realizing i initially had set the refresh rate to 90 Hz i tried setting it back to 72 Hz and now its a perfect experience.

How much of an upgrade to the Quest 2 is it? Wider field of view? Can you read the serial number on the Winter ASI??

This test is not enough. I can read it on with my quest 2. Need to be very close, but read.
OK, I checked with the gauge file and no error : for my eb29r : AS-4-21 Nr 125257

Can anyone record a test video with the Quest 3 please guys?
Like a step by step tutorial to run Condor, and then some 'ingame' + 'outside' footage maybe?
Thanks a lot to the guy who will do it

Has anybody upgraded from Q2 to Q3? I would love to hear from someone who used both as I am trying to work out if it is worth upgrading...

Re: New Meta Quest 3 VR Headset
Yes, I just got a Quest 3 this week, while I used to have a Quest 2.
The image clarity is a huge improvement on the 3 compared to the 2, due to the much better lenses! With the Quest 2 only a small part in the center was ever sharp, if that (it was also very sensible to distance to the eye). With the 3 the entire field of view is sharp!
The 3 does however run down its batteries even faster than the 2, even when plugged in. Haven't had time to do many checks yet, but I think it will be necessary to have one of those battery packs to get any decent play time out of it.

I have the original Meta link cable. For me the headset stays fully charged when I have it plugged in while playing.

Re: New Meta Quest 3 VR Headset
Arne what kind of cable are you using?
On quest 2 with the genuine Oculus cable, I can pretty much fly forever...
My quest 2 is connected directly to a USB C on the 2080TI graphics card. I think In many cases, the headset not charging properly is caused by the USB port not supplying enough current or a doggy cable.
By the way, I always start with the headset below 100% (usually around 80%) I have heard reports from other people that if you connect 100% charged quest 2, the headset will sometimes not start charging when you fly and you might end up running out of juice.
What about the field of view? The most annoying thing about Quest 2 is the feeling that you are looking at the world through a snorkelling mask... Is it any better on Q3?

Re: New Meta Quest 3 VR Headset
I have tried several quest-compatible cables with the Q2, but neither makes much difference for me.
Yesterday I tried plugging the cable directly into the charger for the Q3, not into the PC. Then used AirLink for the image. That worked better, the Q3 still drained battery, but much slower. After 2.5 hours it was down to about 50%. If I can get 4-5 hours that is sufficient for my use.
Possibly it's my PC which can't deliever enough power over USB to keep the Q2 charged? At least for the Q3 the wall charger worked better.
As for field of view, it is a little wider than the Q2, but can't say it's any big improvement. It still feels like looking through a helmet. But at least everything you can see is sharp now, and not mostly a blurry mess, like most of the view in the Q2 was.

Re: New Meta Quest 3 VR Headset
I have a Quest 3, still driving it from my laptop with an RTX2070 Max-Q, so nowhere near its full capabilities (72Hz refresh rate which is honestly fine, not quite full rendered resolution but it still looks great). I was using the original Oculus Link cable that I bought with my Oculus Quest (the original one, aka 'Quest 1') and while it would stay mostly charged, it would lose some charge slowly.
Recently I bought an 'INIU Link Cable' that combines USB3.1 data with USB-C power (such as from the Quest 3's own power adapter), and using that, my headset remains fully charged even after flying for several hours. (I've had some strangeness with the headset discharging while connected to that but with the PC asleep, so now I disconnect the PC when I'm not using it, and it seems charge the headset nicely then, too.)
