Pimax 5k/8K VR set
Re: Pimax 5k/8K VR set
Good point maybe only one lighthouse required for Condor . A `base station' is also required to be purchased and a set of hand controllers ?
So we have a report here of 50fps with Pimax 5k = with a gtx 1060 . So whatever Valves/ Steam version of Oculus Asynchronous Space warp ( ASW ) is obviously being used to final render at 45 fps in the HMD .
So my question would be as far as I know ASW for Oculus needs at least a 9000 series card to work , will Steams equivalent of ASW work with a 780 TI ?
I'm guessing you might need to look at a new GPU soon ! The RTX 2060 have just been released with about 15% more GPU power than the older 1070 - may be the best buy to go long with your Pimax 5K ?
May be wrong in some of this

Re: Pimax 5k/8K VR set
A 780Ti is old, but dont underestimate its raw power, it can keep up with 1060 in most games and its even considerably faster in pixel fill rate, which may be the most important thing in condor, see below.
As for the 2060 vs 1070.. dont read too much in to benchmarks with modern games where nvidia (and AMD) spend enormous resources to optimize the results for their newest cards. The drivers frequently rewrite hole segments of the graphics pipeline or swap algorithms to achieve a few extra percent on popular benchmarks.
Condor will not show any of that, and afaik, condor framerate is restricted primarily by raw pixel fill rate. In that aspect, a 1070 is significantly faster than a 2060 and I dont think a 2060 would even be much of an upgrade for a 780Ti.

Re: Pimax 5k/8K VR set
Thats impressive performance for an old card ! I trust your hardware knowledge there .
My main concern stands , and I've verified by searching on line - Oculus Asynchronous Space warp ( allowing a solid 45 fps to work ) will not function with this card - another Pimax user here with a 1060 is reporting native frame rate of about 50 fps - so Hornet will probably have to get frame rate closer to 90 fps to not have a glitchy experience. This is why I suggested a new card may be on the horizon.
This may require very stripped back settings in Condor or a well below native resolution factor in Oculus Tray Tool like 0.5 X . I believe the native panels are 2560 X 1440 and the render size before reverse lens distortion applied would be larger than that .
I find with my Rift that ASW kicks in often enough with my 1060 when my settings are high - and thats only with native 1200 X 1080 panels .
Anyway we shall find out if the 780Ti does the job soon hopefully .
( Edit : I can't speak for Steam VR - maybe their proprietary ATW or Brainwarp or whatever works with 780ti so Condor may run better with Pimax thru Steam and Revive )

Re: Pimax 5k/8K VR set
If the Condor framerate is restricted primarily by raw pixel fill rate, would a 1070Ti be significantly faster than a 1070??
Re: Pimax 5k/8K VR set
AFAIK, oculus software shouldnt even work at all with the 7 series ? Isnt a 980 the minimum?
But my understanding of how spacewarp/smooth motion/brainwarp works, I cant see how it would require any special GPU features that are only available on modern cards. It seems to basically just render a slightly larger area so that the viewpoint can be shifted inbetween rendered frames to get smoother motion tracking?
I agree. Im just not yet convinced a 2060 is a smart buy if condor is your only concern. Admittedly, performance will never be dictated by a single GPU specification number, but if my theory is correct that condor is mostly fill rate limited (and I know it is at least when rendering clouds), then know this:This is why I suggested a new card may be on the horizon.
780Ti: 48 rops
1060: 48 rops
2060: 48 rops
1070: 64 rops
1070Ti:64 rops
2070: 64 rops
1080: 64 rops
2080: 64 rops
1080Ti: 88 rops
2080Ti: 88 rops
You should multiply that by the GPU clockspeed, but boost clocks arent that far apart on any of the modern cards.

So Ill be curious to see how much or how little a 2060 improves upon the 1060, I fear it may not be much of an upgrade, same rop count, lower clocks, and Im almost certain a 1070 will be faster than a 2060 in condor. That supply is drying up quickly (for new cards at least), but then it may be worth waiting for the rumoured 1660Ti or a xx70 variant should that ever come. Those wont be any faster than a 2060/2070, but at least they will be cheaper as you dont pay for the tensor cores and ray tracing units which condor doesnt use. Better yet would be if you could pick up a 1080Ti in a sale or second hand. It will cost more than a 2060, but that could be the (somewhat) affordable condor VR monster card.

Re: Pimax 5k/8K VR set
Im not sure TBH. The 1070Ti has more texture units but the same amount of rops. AFAICT, condor doesnt use a ton of layered textures or bump mapping or specular mapping, its pretty basic texturing, and the textures are small compared to modern games (condor doesnt even use 1GB of vram) so my guess is that texel fill rate isnt going to be much of a limiting factor. I could be wrong and would love to see a comparison.
Re: Pimax 5k/8K VR set
ROP x Frequency for modern cards - as requested! Interesting to see if this prediction pans out for Condor??
780Ti: 48 rops

Re: Pimax 5k/8K VR set
Thats using baseclocks, right? Boost clock speeds might be more accurate, at least for desktop cards. My 1070 seems to maintain boost (1950+ but I think its factory OC) clocks pretty much throughout while running condor, probably because the light load on shaders doesnt make it draw all that much power. That would be true for all cards.

Re: Pimax 5k/8K VR set
It requires VR specific features coded in Direct X 10 as far as I 've read that can only be activated with 9XXX series cards and higher - no idea why at a technical level .
Agree with you the 2060 may not be much improvement over 1060. They are $600 AUD over here compared to $400 for a 1060 , yet the cheapest RTX 2070 you can buy here is $700 so it would be a no brainer to get a 2070.
Re: Pimax 5k/8K VR set
The choice may be clear if you only want to buy a new card (or if you care about RTX in games like Battlefields). But I would be hesitant to buy a 2070 for condor when you can buy a used 1080Ti for ~100 AUD more. Or a used 1070 which probably performs very similar to a 2070 in condor, for close to half the price. Often still with warranty. Buying second hand is of course always cheaper, but thanks to the crypto mining crash, its not often that much cheaper for recent PC hardware.
Re: Pimax 5k/8K VR set
Good points for Condor VR users .

Re: Pimax 5k/8K VR set
Pimax 5K+ is here. I am waiting for basestation so I cannot test Condor (Steam VR is not working without basestation). But FOV is really better from Rift and the picture is too better äcrisp) so generally good. Interesting - setup was not so problem. So now iam waiting basestation.....
Re: Pimax 5k/8K VR set
Hi to all, so yesterday I bought one basestation (still waiting for first) and today after approx 4 hours of fiddling with tracking of pimax 5k+ it works (problems probably caused by combination near Razer hydra station and no enough power in USB (important to switch off windows USB power management).
First i tried Aerofly FS through Steam (amazing!) and then I started to fiddling with Condor. Revive, Steam... no so simple
In one moment it was working but it was working with delay and some stuttering through revive and steam. I thought my 780Ti is not enough. BUT !!!!!
Then I tried to IMPORT GAME directly to PiTool and it works!!!! Only problem was adjustment of head heigt (for me so 165 cm). Now it is working as charm!!! FPS wit my old 780Ti on photorealistic south france scenery 72 FPS!
Picture is really good, more crisp than Rift definitely. SDE is there so 20-30% reduced (from Rift) - this i see as biggest problem. Picture is too with low brightnes of HMD little bit too bright. BUT THE FOV !!!! This is the difference ! It is really Good and amazing. So Revive is not needed (I think) no Steam, only PiTool and Condor (and oculus software).
