Pimax 5k/8K VR set
Pimax 5k/8K VR set
For those interested in VR, this is a really in depth review of the pimax 5k+ and 8k sets:
Compared to the Vive and Rift, the pimax sets provide up to 200 degree field of view (diagonally, or 170 horizontally), almost double of the other sets and getting close to real life field of view. Limited FoV has always been my primary concern with current generation VR sets; the fact you look through a diving mask -at best.
The pimax also provides higher resolution panels, although the benefit of the "8K" (really 2x 4K panels) over the 5k+ is dubious because the games are rendered at the same resolution, only upscaled on the 8K. The benefit is slightly less screendoor effect, not so much actual higher resolution. Still even the 5k+ provides a much higher res than a vive, and not far from a vive pro.
Review show you need really beefy hardware, a 1080 Ti is considered a "must" , but considering condor is relatively light on system requirements compared to most triple A games, we might get away with more affordable GPUs. Time will tell.
Note that the pimax sets run Steam VR games and is mostly compatible with the Rift, so lets hope it can run Condor too.

Re: Pimax 5k/8K VR set
Has anyone tested Condor with Pimax yet? I haven't received mine yet, but expecting it to ship anytime soon.
Revive *should* work but I'd like to hear some first hand reports.

Re: Pimax 5k/8K VR set
I dont think so. There is at least one more condor user (HornetSk I think?) waiting for his Pimax, I believe he was a kickstarter backer, so we should be getting some reports soon-ish.
I dont even think you will need revive, AFAIK the pimax supports the oculus SDK?

Re: Pimax 5k/8K VR set
Yes I am waiting as backer 33.. my Pimax 5K + (sooooo long), estimate shipping so 2w to 1month . Will see... it will be not so simple I think- Condor is using his own engine, on other side Condor is OK with Rift and near all Rift compatible games are OK with Pimax. Really exciting this waiting (have soo long waited for Condor in VR - near 10y)
Re: Pimax 5k/8K VR set
Got Pimax 5k+ and Condor working, it's awesome and runs fine on 1060.
Re: Pimax 5k/8K VR set
I got around 50fps with full FOV.
I have never used a Rift but I have Vive which technically about the same. Large FOV is really nice.
It's a bit distorted at the edges but you'll learn to ignore it quite soon. There are a lot of
comparison and review videos of Pimax on youtube.

Re: Pimax 5k/8K VR set
The Oculus drivers want to run at 90fps fixed, so your GPU is a bit slow..

Actually, no idea, the only headsets we have are Oculus.
Maybe others could suggest it.

Re: Pimax 5k/8K VR set
If a 1060 gives 50 FPS (although we all know framerates can vary a lot depending on scenery, clouds, ..) .. you probably want to roughly double that performance to maintain 80 or 90fps. When building something to use with a pimax, I wouldnt go lower than a 1080 if you can still find them or a 2070 which is about equivalent.
AMD radeon Vega56 or 64 should be in the same ballpark too, although I havent seen any reports of a vega with condor, so I couldnt tell you if it performs particularly good or bad on condor. I have tested with lower end radeons, a RX 470 and a 580 and they performed very well in condor, arguably better than otherwise equivalent nvidia cards, so I wouldnt be surprised if a vega is an excellent choice. Then again.. until someone tries..
Re: Pimax 5k/8K VR set
Wouldn't be much change from $1750 Australian dollars for me to change over to Pimax by the time I buy a lighthouse tracking system and another $800 for an RTX 2070 .
I'll wait for the next gen HMD's that have a wider field higher resolution with inside out tracking. Investing in a wall mounted tracking system at this stage of th egame doesn't make sense to me .
For people who allready have the valve lighthouse tracking from Vive it would certainly seem more tempting .

Hi,
my Pimax 5k+ is on way (have tracking number). For Condor it si enough only one base station, i ordered one, what i can do? I am curious about FPS with my 780Ti, but it is not so bad I think.
