Quest 3 Mixed reality in C3?

Post by XOS » Tue Dec 17, 2024 8:09 pm

Has anyone played around with Quest 3 capabilities of doing mixed reality in C3?

I have Virtual Desktop and would love if it was possible to see my throttle and stick as they got about a zillion buttons i would love to use but as in general with VR they are very hard to find.

I was thinking of perhaps modifying the cockpit so the view got a box in each of the lowest corners that can be colored so Virtual Desktop can let the cameras pass through in those to areas.

MSFS got plugins where you can make colored square boxes that let Virtual Desktop pass camera through and perhaps a few fake instruments where all they do is pink could be an option but not really sure if that's possible or not. (I do know it must be made specific for eacsh type of aircraft if done like that).

Hi XOS,

I’ve been interested by this at the release of the Quest 3 as well, and there may be the possibility to do it with a third party software somewhere, but it will probably require some research and maybe some coding.

Some guys have been able to do it on MSFS2024 by creating a transparent VR Layer that would let you see your joystick, keyboard or phone..
Can be useful for those interested…

If you want to work on that and try to make it work, please do so

Here is a video showing how to do it on MSFS:

Have a good day!
Antoine

Nice tutorial, thanks EDB!
Love the first comment of the video: ""It drives you to alcoholism but you'll get it to work eventuelly" that pretty much describes the DCS VR experience😂"

Hahaha

Yeah.
VR is here since halfway the 1990-ties. So 30 years. Mixed Reality (XR) is what we want.
Maybe if we are 30 years and beyond it will finaly be usable nicely. And affordable.

XTAL 3 NEO Mixed Reality (XR) Pilot Dedicated Headset from VRG. 4K per eye. 180x120 FoV. Very cheap...

You do know that Virtual Desktop has a function that shows circular passthrough windows that track your hands? It's perfect for just what you're describing. I have a Quest3 as well and use Revive Injector so I can use it with SteamVR and VD instead of Quest Link. Really looking forward to the OpenXR support.
