ASW 15 landings

Post by 6266 » Fri Jan 21, 2022 11:16 am

I ever knew that the ASW 15 is only a Ka 8 in plast ;-) , but is it possible to change the behavior to stop this way?

The last three landings with the ASW 15 were all with strong cross wind. All landings ended this way. I tried everything, less airbrakes on roling out, don't touch the wheel brakes, no idea what i could do better or different.

I had this behavior one time with the LS4, used the wheel brake to much, else this never happend (of course with the Ka 8 and the Baby).

It's a little bit frustrating to get such a finish foto after a nice flight ...

Thanks :-D

Fully held of landing and hold stick in your crotch on landing? Will that work? try it without the cross wind first.

Or does the 15 have the tail wheel on the deck right until the last moment only?

Found it out. If a wing tipp touchs the ground, it happens. I tested with a roling speed of 20 km/h, the plane begins to spin a little bit and goes on the noise with 5 - 10 km/h. A little bit strange, can't believe this will happen IRL.

It happened again, crosswind, but not too much 8 kts or 15 km/h. Hold focus on to balance the wings, but it's impossible because there is at the end no wind on the ailerons. Rolling out, very slow the wingtipp touchs the ground and the noise goes down. In that case the plane falled back in the normal position. In another try I touched the wheel brake to stop before the wingtipp is down, the noise went down immediately.

This behaviour killes the fun with this fantastic plane. It should be changed minimum that way, that the plane falls back after the stop. I have never seen a plast plane staying this way, noise down, tail up. It's rediculous.

Tried it. If you pull stick all the way back till it stops , will settle on tail.

This post is old, but found a solution for it yesterday. Haven't flown this very nice plane often because of that landing behavior.

With a negative C/G bias (f.x. -3) the problem is solved.

I already saw someone landing my club's SZD-51 Junior and braking this much that the nose went down and it stayed there until he left the cockpit.
However this was the only time I saw a plastic glider (without nose wheel, like ASK21 etc.) staying in this nose down position.
