DG101 polar vs ASW19
I'm yet to purchase the DG101. The ASW19 is ship of choice for most club class tasks at the moment for me as it seems to do very well. Has anyone a comparison image of the DG101 polar against the ASW19? I can see the DG has a better min sink however I'd like to see what happens to the polars at speed between the two.

I do not have both planes. But when you bought both you can take screenshots of the polar and look at both with 2 diffrent layers on a program like paint.net
Maybe someone who has both planes can help you.

DG 100 has the same index and is a very nice to fly glider!
The minimum wing loading is almost equal to the 19's.
The DG 100 can circle much slower than the ASW 19 so you can load even on weak days some water if you're not flying club-class-only.
I think in thermal task the DG 100 is a strong competitor to the ASW 19.
In high speed ridge races the ASW 19 is a little bit better because you could fly with a higher wingloading.
But I wouldn't say the lower wingloading with full water would make the DG 100 any worse.
Like you know from real flying: if you fly slower you reach the next thermal higher and you need less time for circling.
All in all I recomment you buying the DG 101, because it's an lovely glider with a nice handling and performances like the ASW 19.
Both gliders are really nice.

Thanks Wickid, that's perfect. I'm more interested in the polar curve for club class races. Seems they are quite close but the ASW19 still has the edge over the DG once transitioning between thermals. I'll no doubt cave and buy the DG101 at some point, and the Pegase, which I assume has a nigh on identical polar to the DG.

It is not only the polar that determines if a plane is the right choice. The DG101 should climb better than the ASW19. An offset of 0.1 m/s in a 3 m/s thermal negates the whole glide ratio advantage the ASW19 has.
If I look at the polar: ASW19 at MC3.0 has a XCspeed of 90 kph. The DG101 at MC3.1 the same 90 kph.

I've used that theory before. I flew a series of tasks in the Libelle against the ASW19 and not once beat it. I didn't feel that the Libelle climbed much quicker than the 19 in the tasks I flew but without proper analysis I cannot say for sure. I just know it lost out massively between thermals. That said as I flew slower I did join thermals higher than the 19's they just always had the edge over the Libelle in Condor.

I'm proud owner of a RL ASW-19 and as soon as it came out in Condor I immediately bought it and flew it using same wing-load and CG of my RL one, (flew it with OCULUS rift and MS SW Force Feedback) it's astonishing how closely it represent the real bird in handling the only difference that i feel is that at speed above 70 KIAS the Condor version seems to be more efficient but my glider is 40 years old and probably a little more draggy than a new one so that might explain that.
if you look at the polar itself the '19 doesn't look like to be a great climber, but the excellent control response and stability in practice make it very easy to center thermals especially if using a good well compensated vario system.
In RL I flew against many club class gliders and so far the only models that consistently out climb me are the Discus, LS4 and ASW20 that is reflected in condor as well, I never had opportunity to fly against a Pegase but i suspect that might beat that '19 as well.

I have only flown a Grob102 and Discus B single seater so far in RL. I do like the Discus B, I didn't realise it was a club class glider though. It's very nice to fly but then I've only the Grob 102 to compare it to. Once the world opens up again and I get currency back up I can get the confidence back and head off on another xc task. I'm looking forward to it but next time I will take a Discus, I've only flown the Grob 102 xc to date.
