JS 3 Template

Post by DarkSpeed » Sat Jan 23, 2021 10:23 pm

Hey,

the model of the JS3 is great, there are only 3 skins available so i am painting some more.
It is very good that the most parts are seperated in the template, so you can paint the probes, and other small parts for their own.

But i can not find out where to paint the upper 2 blades of the airbrakes. They always stay black, which i can not find in the template.

Any ideas where to paint all blades of the airbrakes?

Second thing is that i want to change the panel. I was surprised that it is the only 18m glider without AHRS, and i personally like more a symetrical layout of the instruments. My problem is to find the Vne chart in the files and where i can change its position to fit my layout (wich is standard on many real JS3s)

Top brake panels have the carbon fiber texture

Vne chart is in the model file and cannot be moved

Thank you very much for the fast reply.

So the airbrakes blades are not in the template? There i cant see a carbon fibre texture.

No they are not. They have the CF texture located in the planes/textures folder

Hi Chris, is that nut and washer in the photo, supposed to be so far down the bolt?

Hi Darkspeed, if you swop the compass and altimeter (left & right), then your direction instruments, and the altitude, gain and loss instruments are grouped together. If I had my way I would put the compass and airspeed as close together as possible for when I get caught blind in a cloud. Cheers Jeff

Yes, there’s a spring between it and the brake cap

Hey,

i find it very hard to find the things in the template (cockpit.dds).
Wich number/area makes the color of wich part?
JS3-18_cockpit.jpg
1: ?
2: ?
3: ?
4: ?
5: Gear lever
6: ?
7: ?
8: ?
9: ?
10: ?
11: ?
12: upper dashboard
13: lower dashboard
14: ?
15: lower side panels
15a: in this area is the trim lever, but there are also some screws connected
16: ?
red and blue dots?

Would it be possible to get an overview of the cockpit.dds wich field makes wich part?
For example i tested 2,3,4,6,7,9 in an shiny green, but I did not see any of it in game.

It would be nice to have such an overview of every .dds file of every plane. Sometimes many parts are hidden under on color field. So it is extremly hard to find where to change wich part.

This is only possible when you have the source file for the planes, which only the Condor Team has.

I could do it for the planes I made but it wouldn't help you much. I use an unwrapping technique which pretty much distributes faces randomly to pack the squares as tightly as possible. So faces of an object could be anywhere in the area.

Some other planes have parts overlapping which have the same colour. So you couldn't change the colour of a particular part without changing other stuff.

Thank you for the explanation.
Who has done the JS3 model? Maybe he can help me out in this case.
