Sustainers are a bit crap, really
You just want it for the noise, admit it !

Re: JS3 is released
I just want to call myself "jet pilot"
I did fly a JS3 with a jet engine once in real life, but was instructed to not run the engine unless necessary, so I'm still no jet pilot (They have a limited number of starts before overhaul, so owner wanted to delay that as long as possible)
Re: JS3 is released
I agree with most of what Tim says.TimKuijpers wrote: ↑Sun Jan 24, 2021 2:41 pmTranslate this to the performance of the Ventus, which was designed from the philosophy to make the glider fit the habits of a pilot in order to extract maximum performance. Where as most other gliders were just designed to perform well on the drawing board and (if lucky) make the pilot adjust his/her behaviour to get the performance out of the glider. I truly believe that this is what makes the Ventus perform so well in competitions/crosscountry and the JS3 has not jet been able to make a big difference. If a glider performs very well at 240km/h, you still need a pilot that dares to fly 240km/h AND is able to hit the thermals, core them straight away. You need a very high cloudbases to actually fly those speeds for a while.. In the Netherlands it will be a challenge. But if this is what aerodynamics will allow, over time pilots will adjust (some sooner than others). I'm a big fan of clubclass gliding, (admitted, mainly money driven ) and it gives so much joy to keep up with the 10x more expensive gliders. The only way that that's possible is in an active sky where you can more easily make use of the energy. But as soon as there is even the smallest glide through dead air, you're gone. In condor you'll agree that there is not much of dynamic flying going on, and most of the time we fly a fixed speed between climbs for minutes. This of course favours the glider that performs best on paper, disregarding any handling advantages another glider might have.
I must say I'm biased to believe that the JS3 should indeed be significantly better at high speed. I'm however flying condor for the competition part and then it doesn't matter which polar a glider has, I'll chose the polar of my liking (so Uros' picture is very usefull indeed) and everybody else can do the same.
The Ventus 3 has a lot of nice handling qualities, and pilots who have flown it says you can feel the thermals like no other glider. Those are qualities which are invaluable in real life, but don't transfer well to Condor. In Condor, where it's usually strong conditions, and usually straight glides through still air between thermals, raw glide performance is usually most important. I think the JS3 performance should make it the dominant glider. In real life it will be much closer (as results show).
Re: JS3 is released
Ok I admit it . It’s for the noise!
Re: JS3 is released
In RL there is a bigger margin between Vne and the structural speed where the wings will flutter off. If that is done in Condor (it used to be like this in Condor 1), people will deliberately fly over Vne to get an advantage.JShieck wrote: ↑Sun Jan 24, 2021 7:44 pmFirstly I want to thank our Condor developers for this update!
However I recognised the flutter speeds do not match with the written Vne speeds in the cockpit.
I flew 250 km/h in ca. 2700 m and got more than once flutter while the decal says Vne in 4500 m is 280 km/h.

You may call me a grumpy old man as much as you want (I already know I'm one ), but IMHO there are loads of more important things to improve or add in Condor.
If you crave so much for jet engine noise why don't you make a jet engine noise file and share it here ?

Re: JS3 is released
Once I have the jet noise mod installed I'll keep a little jar of kerosene in my cockpit to open up so I can smell Jet A whenever I'm flying the turbine version :pBre901 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 26, 2021 5:28 pmYou may call me a grumpy old man as much as you want (I already know I'm one ), but IMHO there are loads of more important things to improve or add in Condor.

Re: JS3 is released
Normally I would agree with you but this is a JS-3 with a JET sustainer we are taking about. And, no, a jet sound file won’t do the job sorry! Plus I only asked if there were plans for it. The Condor team can do as they please - as long as they develop a jet sustainer for the JS3Bre901 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 26, 2021 5:28 pmYou may call me a grumpy old man as much as you want (I already know I'm one ), but IMHO there are loads of more important things to improve or add in Condor.
