Hi all,

This glider is well advanced, but I need some assistance.

Image

This photo from the AS website shows a fairing round the flap handle, but it doesnt show enough of it !. Can anyone help with a better photo of this?

Also, is this fairing very common on ASW20s? I see many pictures online, but none with this part..

Hi Chris,

The fairing is of the latest model. Pretty sure it's in the C model.
Also the original (a) model has flap setting 6. The Britts call it Jezus mode as you desent on earth in that setting.

Most ASW 20 owners als placed a 3.5 set flapping as this is a best setting seems better for thermalling than 4.
It is bang in the middle between 3 and 4.

I will be near my A tomorrow. So let me know what pictures you wuld like!

Warm Regards,

Frank

That photo is from B or C. B and C models have that fairing and flap position 5 landing (flaps +38degrees and ailerons -8degree).

A model have 6landing(jesus flaps, virgin hole etc), 5landing, 4thermic etc,

here is photo from my 20C flap handle also.

I think the ASW-20A version should be modeled. That one is elligable for club class. The B and C version would have to fly in the 15 meter class where it won't stand a chance!

What do you guys think?

A model is what I think should be modeled. A versus B or C have little or nothing performance difference if you dont count B model higher MTOW 525kg. C have same 454kg MTOW but it have turbulators. Either one you cant use in club class.

ASW 20 will be perfect for Sports Class. ;)

Interesting pdf/presentation I've found, ASW-20 Gathering: http://8kcab.com/ASW-20%20Gathering.pdf
And some knowledge (manuals etc): http://8kcab.com/asw20lib.html

Will there also be the 16.6m version and would it then be in the 18m class? A sport class would certainly be interesting for it... If not, then as Wickid already says, it would only make sense in the version for the club class. BTW, why only the A version is allowed for the club class :?: But then probably only the ASW20 will be flown at clubclass tasks, not  ?

Greetings Patrick 2P

That is what the FAI IGC index list says. It lists the ASW20, F (15 meter). And in the remarks column it reads: Not eligible ASW 20 b, c

Not necessaraly, clubclass is a handicapped competition. Condor uses the DAeC index list so the ASW20 will get an index of 110. That means it has to be around 10.1% faster than a cirrus (index 99). In the IGC index list the ASW20 has 1.055 and the cirrus 1.000. So there it only needs to be 5.5% faster.

Ofcourse the B or C model could be modeled (preferably the B model due to the higher MTOW when flown with water in "all class") and OXO and Uros could still decide to put it in Clubclass.

We would like of course to have our designs be popular in competitions.

To that end I propose we make the B model with the higher weight limit, and allow it in club class (without water of course)

Comments welcome.

Ah ok i wasn't sure about the big index difference to the cirrus and libelle. So you have to be really fast. But still I think that the ASW will be the choice nr. 1 at the usual race tasks with 160 + speed on the ridge, just because of the flaps. The "condor professionals" will certainly be able to take advantage of this ðŸĪŠ

My proposition:

ASW 20 A for Club Class
ASW 20 B for Sports Class

+ FAI-Handicaps index beside DAeC Index (tasksetter decision)
+ possibility of another, custom indices

No. We are only making one type. And we arent making the extended tips either, or any with winglets.
