Help please, building a FAUVEL AV-361

Post by DonPedros » Sat Aug 31, 2019 2:51 am

Hi everybody,

I am planning to build a FAUVEL AV-361 motor glider 1:1, the real thing...

I would love to have a model of this glider in Condor 2 for testing and learning purposes.
Is there anybody out there who can help me out and has the skills to build a realistic model of the FAUVEL AV-361 for Condor 2 ?

I hope that someone get interested and can help me out ;-)

Thank you very much in advance and I am looking forward for hopefully good news ;-)

    Happy flying

    Hi DonPedros,

I agree to create the 3D model of the Fauvel (with 3DSmax).
    This is the first step.
Then, you need the flight manual for the integration of the glider in Condor:This last operation, only OXO can perform it.
    Ask him for his opinion.

Do you have plans for the Fauvel (I don't trust internet plans)?

    Hi Patrik,
thank you very much for the good news, this is fantastic ;-)

The original plans are at the moment digitalized by HotWings, you can see the thread here.
    https://www.homebuiltairplanes.com/foru ... ost-489311

HotWings bought the rights for the Fauvel Design and only he has access to the plans. They should be ready end of the year.
    • I could buy RC model plans if that would help you ?
An original Flight Manual will be a problem and probably not available.
I will check that out with HotWings, he should have the original.

I have a GERMAN one and I could translate that to English if necessary...

I am very excited and I hope that this model will be ready to fly soon ;-)

Thank you very much again and let's cross fingers that this project will go trough.
    Have a great day
    Peter

    We never use rc plans

.. and any completed plane will have to go in the queue. It will not be soon :)

    Don Pedros,

Can you confirm the airbrakes.. Patrick has passed me the model but it only has lower surface brakes.

It appear that it should have top and bottom surface brakes. Is that correct?

    Hi Chris,
thanks for working on the Fauvel model ;-)

The ORIGINAL AV-36 had only a lower surface Air brake.

The AV-361 will have modern Schempp Hirth air brakes, TOP and BOTTOM surface brakes.

    Image

If redesigning the model to a Schempp Hirth airbrake it is to much work, just keep the version with the bottom brake, will not make too many differences I guess.
Peoples who have flown the AV-36 extensively told me that the Schempp Hirth air brakes could be too much stress for the wing structure ???¿¿¿???

Do you have a time frame when this model will be available in Condor 2 ?

Very exciting, cannot wait to fly this baby ;-)

Kindest regards and have a great day
    Peter

It's not too much work to make it correct.

If 361 has top and bottom, thats what we will make.

Please tell me the wingspan and show me the shape of the wingtips.

There are so many different data sources and drawings, its impossible to tell what's correct.

The AV-361 has 800 mm more wingspan than the AV-36 (400 mm more on each wing), a total wingspan of 12,850 mm

Here the drawing for the wingtip and some pictures, hope that helps ;-)

AV 361, not AV36 we agreed!

And Charles Fauvel doesnt agree with your wingspan, or wingtip shape.

Yeah, please build the AV-361 ;-)

There are NO exact plans for the AV-361 available, all we got is a few sketches... the AV-361 was NOT built by Fauvel and NO detailed plans were drawn for it.

The AV-361 has an extended wingspan of 800 mm (2x 400 mm) and if adding this extension to the original AV-36 wings, we get a wingspan of 12,850 mm.
There are quite a few different measurements available from publications, but we have to follow the ORIGINAL plans from Fauvel, not the ideas from writers of articles in magazines.

On the overview drawing for the AV-361, they drew the wingtips a bit wider than on the original plans, and that seems to bring the wingspan to 13,000 mm
    • I guess we can go for that ... wingspan 13,000 mm

Thanks and have a great day
    Peter
