Astir CS

Post by Dehnd » Mon Oct 08, 2018 4:04 pm

Good afternoon,
First of all: I'm really happy about the new ASK. At least I can practice flying also in winter now :D My club always does a winter break :/
Nevertheless I'm wondering if there's going to be an Astir CS released someday..
Greetings

Never say never, but I dont think anyone is working on it, so not anytime soon. But at least performance wise, the cirrus should be pretty close.

The Cirrus is equally hilarious. I wish he was still adding types to it. The DG300 is by far the best sifow entry though!

:D Come on, the Astir is a great plane for student pilots changing to single-seats.. It only screams really loud in turns sometimes

It may upset some CS owners as well.

The original Grob 102 Astir CS was perfect for large heavy pilots, huge cockpit, a massive, thick, strong
wing that inspired confidence at speed in rough conditions. (Vra = Vne @ 135kts)
It may not have handled like a Cirrus, but I would not be embarassed to race in an Astir against one.

And if you like to dance while you fly, well, there is only one choice ;D

Grob single seat Astir models included the CS, CS77, CS Jeans, Club/Standard Astir II, Club/Standard Astir III.
G104 Speed Astir, and the latest Standard Astir III.

Grob Astirs, both dual and single seats, held long standing world altitude records, which may reflect well on
the wide chord, thick, high lift wings.

The Astirs get nicknames like "Concrete Swan" and "Fat Albert", but I was always delighted to fly them, as they
offered great comfort during long flights.

In fact, it was the beauty of an Astir CS upon first sight that inspired me to say "What do I have to do to fly that?"
upon my first visit to a gliding club, and I started my gliding career immediately, soloing the CS about 20 hours later :)

I would certainly love to have a G 102 Astir CS available, together with other club planes from the Condor 1 plane pack 2 (namely ASW 19b).
I believe there is enough people who use Condor as an off season thermalling training simulator, so the cheap club gliders for beginners would be welcome.
If a modeller needs photos I can try to provide some. If anyone needs manual, it can be found here: http://www.solidcad.hu/ass/GLIDING/LETO ... manual.pdf

I believe that the Concrete Swan is Twin Astir, not CS. :)

Astir CS would certainly make me very very happy.
It's a wild ride. After a several hour flight I thought I need an ass transplant, and the rattling when flying fast is frightening. And the whistling sounds that come from only-god-knows-where only strenghten the feeling of flying a bathtub with an abysmal roll rate.

Also the cockpit is big enough to bring my laptop, several bags of popcorn and there's even enough room for the dog.

I love the Astir.

Strange, I've never heard any rattling... but define fast. IIRC I never flew faster than 150 km/h.
