Re: Astir CS
Hello,
I have a question for all the Astir CS pilots. Approximately how far on the fuselage does this very flat shape seen on picture 2 go? It's very hard to determine from images. I currently left this shape to around the end of wingroot (whole length marked on picture 3), then nicely transitioned into round-ish shape.

Re: Astir CS
since I can't just go there now because the whole airfield is closed for civilians and being guarded by green men with weird black super soakers, I can only use my memories, BUT:
I am pretty sure the transition starts at the leading edge and is pretty much complete at the trailing edge. so it's a smooth transition across the whole chord

Thanks for the info!

Also I’m pretty sure the gear doors are simple not compound curve

Re: Astir CS
yes they are flat but the transition starts earlier on the lower sides of the fuselage and the flatness is kept longer on the underside to enable having the pancake gear doors
my drawing is bad, it exists simply to illustrate my point

Re: Astir CS
That must be a CS77 or newer (G102 Standard Astir II or III ?), above, the nose is sharpened. Livery from the '80's ?
Below is the factory livery on an early CS, circa 1973-74. Bundaberg Soaring Club in Queensland, Australia
recieved two of these aircraft, brand new back in the day, the survivor of which (VH-WQJ) I flew and maintained
for many years. The manuals from the earliest model to the latest are nearly identical as far as I can tell.
This plane is the reason I took up gliding, love at first sight I guess
I can't help thinking the cockpit/nose looks out of proportion (too short, snub nosed?) in the screenshot of the
model at the top of this page and linked below:
download/file.php?id=19774&mode=view
It might be an illusion, but the wing root chord to canopy rail size doesn't look right to me.
The vertical stab/rudder doesn't look quite right there either, the trailing edge of the rudder should be nearly vertical,
the stab/rudder chord looks too wide at the bottom. It could just be the screenshot, though.

Re: Astir CS
I've found only 2 (maybe 3) issues:
------------------------------------
Apart from that your model looks really really good!
(opinion of a real Astir lover )
- make the marked area of the nose more round
(https://cdn.planespotters.net/09444/ja0 ... 2721_o.jpg)
- remove this corner point on the wing
- (maybe it's an illusion, but the wing edge doesn't look accuratly.
I mean this small flattening)
This looks right for me.It might be an illusion, but the wing root chord to canopy rail size doesn't look right to me.

Re: Astir CS
Looking good!
Surely the nose just requires modifying by chopping the end of it off? The curve looks OK, it's just missing the nose is actually flat as that's where the aerotow connection point is.

2018 - Silver Badge complete - Forgot I could claim for the 100km diploma flying an out and return
2019 - Get up to speed and aim for a 300km task?! maybe.....
Re: Astir CS
The nose directly around the aerotow hook is right.

Hey there, I am wondering if there are any updates on the possible release of the Astir?
