Pawnee Tow Plane in Condors 2

Post by evergreen » Fri May 15, 2020 11:37 pm

Does anyone have a Pawnee tow plane that can be used in Condor 2?

The tow planes come from the developers. I must say I miss the Pawnee! I did a lot of towing in one and it's one of my favourite planes :D

Thank you for listening to us and creating a Pawnee for Condor 3. I must say though that it is a bit of a dog. I don't know which version you modeled it after, but every Pawnee I've towed behind has been a lot more powerful than what is currently available in C3. Would it be possible to get a performance upgrade in one of the future updates please. That would be much appreciated. Most Pawnees (at least in the USA) are 235hp or better, and perform very nicely. The one modeled in Condor seems to be a 150hp version. Thanks.

Hello John,

thanks for your feedback. I've reviewed the performance of the Condor3 Pawnee and I have found it in line with real life video's and IGC files of planes being towed by a 235 hp version.

An ASK21 with 2 pilots should get about 2,5 m/s average climb behind the tow. I found that the Condor3 version tows at around 3.2 m/s average.
An LS1f should get about 3.5 m/s average climb. An equivalent glider in Condor3 gets 3.6 m/s.

So in fact the towplane is slightly more powerful than its real life counterpart.

Thank you for doing this. My concern i think is more in regard to the initial acceleration while still on the ground than what the climb rate is in the air. The Condor Pawnee seems to have much slower acceleration than any of the ones i have towed behind in real life. This makes the glider drop a wing on initial roll out much easier than in real life. This is obviously more pronounced with a heavier ballasted modern glider than the older unballasted club gliders so many of us fly in real life. However, the initial acceleration of the Pawnee in Condor seems more like that of the piper cub, which seems unrealistic. Again, I’m not referring to climb rates, but the initial acceleration.
