Project Slovenian Bat. Or FAI 13,5m Class SelfLaunch?

Post by Kekelekou » Sun Aug 09, 2020 9:49 pm

Hello fellow virtual pilots!

After having spent a few years developping addons (as a hobby) for FSX, I am now very seriously considering modelling a plane for Condor2.
My sweetspot for both motorgliders and Slovenia makes Pipistrel planes obvious candidates.
I really like both the Sinus and the Taurus, each with its pros and cons.
The Sinus’ performances are lower (best glide ratio 27, min sink rate 1m/s) than the Taurus (41 and 0.7m/s), but they are on par with the SF28 already being worked on by the Condor test pilots. This would be interesting for competitions. Its high-wing design is also more distinctive and potentially quite attractive for general aviation simmers.
The Taurus, even though it also features the side-by-side cockpit and autonomous taxiing, remains much closer to the other Condor sailplanes, so maybe less risky marketingwise.

So before I make a decision about which one to model, I would really be interested in reading your thoughts about it.

Thanks!

Taurus all the way for me. The other one is moving too close to normal powered aircraft I think. I wouldn’t buy it.

I’m interested to see what the developers say - whether they want to keep going down this path of gliders crossing over into powered aircraft style. I think the SF28 is a great addition but do we need more of the same type? Just my 2 cents.

Good luck with the modelling. It’s great to see more people offering to help out in that department so thank you.

Taurus.

We will add more motor glider in future, but the main thrust is always gliders. There are no plans for pure motor planes.

The Sinus is definitely a motorglider, but I admit that on the sprectum ranging from « usually powered flight with the occasional feathered prop gliding » to « gliding except for the brief self launch », it lays much more on the former side than on the latter.

Thank you both for you feedback. It confirms what I had anticipated, so I know how to proceed now.

Off we go, then!

It's nice to see that the SF27 will get competitors.
Will it get an own class like TMG?
Because the Taurus does not belong to school class. (The SF27 would do.)

Still think you’re missing a trick oxo... flyable tow planes would be awesome. Very rewarding launching a grid and then you can always hop in a glider afterwards and join the race. Could be a great training aid too.

In real life in Norway Taurus is competing in club class. But it's not very competitive. Glides worse than most club class planes, and climbs a lot worse than all of them.

Arneh, your comment has got me thinking...
A Taurus in Condor2 would be nice (at least according to me...) from a leisure flying point of view, but now I am wondering if modelling it would be relevant for our competition-oriented sim.
And coincidentally, I have just learnt about the FAI 13,5m class. Some sailplanes could suit both the competition orientation and my tastes.
These would be the MiniLAK17 :

Or Alisport Silent 2 Electro :

Any thoughts about these two?

That specific LAK (now with registration LN-GTR) is also flying in Norway now :-) But it hasn't participated in any contests here, though it was rented for World Championship some years ago.
