Re: Satellite images
Downloading is the first offense. Storing is the second. Sharing the third, because for every download they loose revenue. If they can prove how much they loose on every download, $$$...
I think as a user you can get away with it (although you may not store the illegal data). But running servers with those landscapes may be tricky. You provide a service with illegal data... and, by doing so, are promoting the illegal downloads and use.
All depends on if you can afford a 1000 euro/hour or more lawyer.

Re: Satellite images
For users I would expect a cease and desist. Especially sinds you can't reasonably expect the user to know the data source. It is not advertised where the data comes from. It is more Condor Club and the creator that will have the legal trouble i suspect.

Re: Satellite images
NorthGermany is finished with the new texture from Sentinel-2 map. It's not as bad as I feared. If you will try it, you can download it from my server

Re: Satellite images
Glad you got it completed with open data!
I guess it would be interesting to post a few pictures at different altitudes (500m, 1000m, 2000m AGL for example).
An additional side-effect is that a 10m/px resolution means 2048px tiles are large enough, and helps at keeping the landscape download time down. Guess why I mention this!

Re: Satellite images
I was thinking about the tile size, it's now 8192 x 8192, maybe too big. I can try later to replace it with 2048 x 2048, that will decrease the landscape size. It's now 21 GB. Pictures coming soon

Re: Satellite images
That’s absolutely fine this way, thank you 6266!
Granted some landscapes are much sharper, but that looks perfectly flyable and enjoyable this way.
The bottom line is that I do prefer a 10m/px landscape over no landscape at all.
Each tile is 23040m-sided square, so 8192 px means 2.8m/px. 2048 is 11.2m/px but ~16x lighter and 4096 is 5.6m/px but ~4x lighter.

Re: Satellite images
Thanks, I will try to convert it to a lower size, would be nice to make it smaller without loosing any quality

Re: Satellite images
Tried it: Tiles reduced to 2048 x 2048 gives a huge difference in quality, reduced to 4096 x 4096 gives a (very) small difference. Because I don't want to loose anything I go for the 8192 x 8192 and keep the big landscape. But it's good to test alternates, would be nice with maybe only 5 GB. Thanks for the hint

Re: Satellite images
Jumping on this discussion here. I have a landscape using google maps imagery, all following the tutorial from soaringtools.org. Is this landscape illegal and can I get in trouble with just using it privately or sharing it between some close friends?
Re: Satellite images
Yes, your landscape is probably illegal. However, using it privately, I doubt the copyright owners will find out unless your friends tell on you.KaptenPanna wrote: ↑Tue Jun 07, 2022 1:26 pmJumping on this discussion here. This topic was more about sharing the landscape publicly on Condor Club and 6266 his website.

Re: Satellite images
If it's not legal, in my opinion it isn't, you can come in very big trouble. If you f.x. use a not legal copy of a software and they find it out, you have to pay for it, maybe a little bit more. So you can calculate your financial damage. Maybe you will loose 1000 EUR if they find you, and safe 100 if not. Your decision (I would of course pay the 100, because it's right).KaptenPanna wrote: ↑Tue Jun 07, 2022 1:26 pmJumping on this discussion here. With the landscapes it's another price. I found a price of 25 EUR / km². A landscape 500 x 500 km = 250.000 km² x 25 EUR = 6.250.000 EUR. Maybe you get it cheaper, but only 10 % is much more than my house. If you have a 3 x 3 tiles landscape the price will be ca. 120.000 Euro, 10 % = 12.000 for a small landscape in Condor? Never risk that.
The probability to be found may be very low, but if they find you, your damage is extremly high.
I think you have the problem already in using a copy of it. If it's not legal, than it's never legal. Because of all the discussion I now deleted all my saved landscapes where I'm probably not safe. Remaining only Slovenia2, those from CondorWorld and my new selfmade based on Sentinel-2 map.
Condor is growing, and that is very good. But besides this growth the risk of to be found increases.

Re: Satellite images
Nephi and Matamata also use 100% legal data and are both very high quality landscapes.

Re: Satellite images
Good to know, but difficult to see from outside, if it's not published. And to publish it means to publish all not legal landscapes too. Not really easy ...

Re: Satellite images
There is now a second version of NorthGermany on the download side, made with 4096 x 4096 tiles. 3 GB zip file, unzipped 7 GB (the bigger one is 10 GB, unzipped 21 GB). Maybe the difference isn't really visible while flying.Kekelekou wrote: ↑Mon Jun 06, 2022 5:50 pmGlad you got it completed with open data!
