Modifying treemaps in an existing landscape

Post by 6266 » Mon Dec 06, 2021 12:46 pm

Hi,

I'm modifying an existing landscape, made a copy of it and are able to create airports and modify the height maps.

That's working very well and I got a lot of airports I like to use.

Now I wish to modify the treemap for one airport. I know how to paint them if I have the sources. But here I don't have sources. Is it possible to do it nevertheless?

Modifying the height map I know that the tile is the 1889. Found the 1889.for file. In the t1889.dds I see exact the region, I want to modify. Maybe I can take this file and make a new treemap on it. Of course I would prefer to modify the existing tree map, but in the worst case I can paint it new for this tile.

What will happen, if I export the treemaps from that? Will it destroy the others? Should I create a new copy only to get the modified 1889.for and copy it back? Then I will get a problem with the hash file for the treemaps. Or will this be created from the .for files?

Thanks for any hint

Ok, found it out by myself.

Made a copy of MyLandscape (what is a copy of an existing landscape), named it MyLandscapeDEV

Created a file s1889.bmp in 512x512 all black, depth 24 bit in MyLandscapeDEV\Working\ForestMaps

Created a file b1889.bmp in 512x512 black, white there, where I wanted to have the trees (had to paint all trees new, added the missing trees), depth 24 bit in MyLandscapeDEV\Working\ForestMaps

Opened LandscapeEditor, opened MyLandscapeDEV and clicked "File\Export forest maps (FOR)"

Copied the 1889.for from MyLandscapeDEV\Forestmaps to MyLandscape\Forestmaps

Opened LandscapeEditor, opened MyLandscape and clicked "File\Export foresthash (FHA)"

And here it is. Testflight will follow later, but I'm sure it will work. I wanted to add the trees on the left side of the airfield. The result is as good as it is possible with the tree maps. I like it

EDIT: Testflight with success, process is working

Those sticks may ruin your day in a cross-wind

I think they may be a little too close to the runway?

I think they are there IRL too, nearly 45/50 years since I was there last time, didn't focussed on the trees that time :-D. If it will be too dangerous, there is a lot of space on the right side ...

It's the airfield my father started flying in the 1950s as a teenager

Yes Andy ;-)

On the homepage of the club I found a SG 38, build from the club in 1952.

https://www.aeroclub-wolfsburg.de/segel ... ark/sg-38/

I'm not sure when my father started there, but I remember he was 16 (1951). So it would be possible that he was a member of the team building this plane. Remembered that he talked about a plane they build themselv. That find was the best christmas gift!
