Re: Kanta-Häme Landscape - EFRY mostly done!

Post by Kekelekou » Fri Feb 04, 2022 3:24 pm

Hello!

The project was paused during Christmas holidays, and has taken some time to get back on the workbenck, but here it is!
The runway and taxiway paintings are modelled and UV wrapped :

Thanks to the muck approach, I will be able to alter and weather down the paintings later on.
Now, off we go with the hangar modelling!
Stay tuned.

Hello!

Some texturing done, but I lack good pictures to map the remaining buildings. I have just sent an e-mail to the Räyskälä airfield management team asking for photographs.

In the meantime, I have flown above EFRY a bit, and I have noticed that the asphaltpaint polygons disappear when close to the sailplane. Any idea about what could cause this?

Bit difficult to explain but I'll try.

The runway is a big rectangle polygon, the numbers are probably smaller ones on top. They all get triangulated when converting to c3d (all faces get turned into triangles. If it is all perfectly flat and at the same level you'll get intersecting edges. What you see is probably one of the edges of the runway polygon in front of the paint polygon and thus covering it.

2 ways to fix:

1. Make sure that the numbers are also in the underlying asphalt polygon. So all vertices and edges of the paint have a corresponding vertex and edge in the runway. That can be quite expensive on vertices.

2. Which is what I usually do, as this also happens on the plane models with the decals. Just move the paint vertices by 0.1 mm steps in Z-axis so they are slightly above the runway. Just keep moving them until this problem disappears. It usually doesn't take a whole lot of distance if the runway faces are perfectly flat. You really won't notice this tiny distance in the game.

Got it! Will try the tiny Z shift!
Thanks for your help!

Nailed it wickid, the Z-fighting is gone. Shifting the asphalt paint polygons up 7mm did the trick (just as I had already done for EFRO and forgotten in the meantime   ).
Thanks for your help!

Texturing done! A few textures and models borrowed from AA2, but that'll do!
The muck files need to be reworked somewhat to depict some weathering.

Hi!

Here the final result for EFRY. The (only) difference with the previous screenshot is the weathered asphalt paint texture that tones down the "fresh paint" look a bit. Hope you like it!

EFHV Hyvinkää, here we come!

Hyvinkää EFHV has come along nicely, so it's done now :

The last remaining bits (loading screens and so on) shouldn't take long, so the first Finland scenery for Condor2 will be available shortly! :D

Stay tuned!
