First flight above my self-made Räyskälä scenery! THANK YOU!

Post by Kekelekou » Fri Sep 24, 2021 4:07 pm

Hello,

After the 10th SGP which was such a blast to watch, I have bit the bullet and decided to try to build my own scenery. I have kept it simple with one single, zoom 17 tile.
Here is what it looks like after a few hours :

Can anyone guess which airport that is?

I am still to add the airport buildings, but it sure is rewarding to flight over it! :D

I'd like to thank all the contributors who have shared their knowledge through tutorials, tools or here on the forums, especially and namely Jiri Brozek, Xavier Delaborde and John Murtari.

Don't know where it is, but it's flat and that is very good :-D

The airfield is Räyskälä, the home of the Finnish Sports Aviation Academy and one of the busiest general aviation airfileds in Finland.
Several international competitions, inclusdng the 2014 World Gliding Championships, took place in Räyskälä.

And you are correct : the area (and most of Finland) is as flat as a pancake!

Anyonr interested in a Finland scenery over which the 2014 WGC tasks could be flown?

Yes I'm interested in a landscape over Finland. I have Danmark, the south of Norway and a little piece of Sweden. Finland is missing in Scandinavia. I would guess it was Finland because of your Name and the lakes in the landscape. Would be great to fly over Finland. Have never been there in RL.

I would make minimum two new tasks for Flat_Land_Club if I get Finland

Sure, we are. :) We could prepare re-fly contest (based on RL) over your scenery (if it covers WGC RL tasks). :)
No matter where you go... There you are...

Out of curiosity, I have just had a look at the size of such a scenery. It ends up being a whopping 11x9 tile landscape. Probably far too taunting for a newbie scenery designer. For now.
Focusing on the most active part of Finland as per WeGlide recordings, the size would reduce down to 5x3 to cover the « corridor » between Helsinki-Vantaa EFHK and Tampere-Pirkkala EFTP airspaces. The west and east limits would be Forssa and short of Lahti, so it would roughly cover the whole Kanta-Häme province. Only 3 airfields to create : Räyskälä EFRY, Hyvinkää EFHV and Forssa EFFO.
Sounds much more reasonable as a first serious landscape.

For Flat_Land_Club it would be good enough if I can make a 150 km triangle on it

Each tile is a 23.04km square, but it is impossible to fly within 5km of the limits of the landscape.
So the flyable zone would be a 105km x 59km rectangle.
The Räyskälä - Hyvinkää - Hämeenkoski - Räyskälä triangle reads 151km on Aviamaps!
