Thermal Map Value precision

Hi Guys

I would like to know if the thermal map in Condor2 differentiates between values through sixteen or more levels?

It occurred to me that by using grey scale and by only reading the first digit (Hex) of any colour, one would be able to set 16 different heat reflectance levels.

So would a straight grey scale image still produce reliable results, or would downscaling the colours to say only having seven, work better?

The posterize tool in Paintshop works well for this function.

The tdm file is an 8bits grey scale map, with a 4bits (16 levels) its size would be divided by two, but as it represents only 1/1000th of the global scenery size, the gain would not be so great...

To put this question another way.
Does Condor2 only look for five specific values or does it work with all 255 when calculating thermals?

Only Uros knows the exact formula. There are many variables going into thermal generation. Exactly how the thermal map is weighted, I have no clue.
