CoToMa (v1.0.1) Towplane selection utility

Post by Bre901 » Sat Aug 29, 2020 4:44 pm

I wrote 2 little scripts that allow to hide or reactivate unwanted towplanes (especially for landscape tests)

https://drive.google.com/file/d/17dc-vg ... sp=sharing

PiperCubOnly.bat : creates, if needed, a folder named "Hidden_planes" in the Condor installation folder and moves all the towplanes except the Piper-Cub into it.

AllTowplanes.bat : puts back in their place the 4 towplanes previously moved

The scripts detect the installation directory of Condor2, but I can't guarantee that they work if there are spaces in the corresponding path, I haven't tested and I won't ; if you like to put spaces in file or folder names, that's your problem, not mine

Thanks! Just the posting I needed! A few days someone asking me how to only show specific tow planes.
I didn't realize it was just that easy to move them out of the Condor2\Planes folder.

Best regards!
John

Towplane selection application

Post by Bre901 » Fri Jun 18, 2021 10:10 am

If you have issues with scripts, I have written a very simple application that allows to activate/deactivate any towplane(s)

The beta version is available there : https://drive.google.com/file/d/19BJZ84 ... sp=sharing

Comments are welcome

This is useful for me. I wish I'd seen it earlier. I sometimes have to randomly host using and something quick to make it so only the Wilga is used is perfect. When I host currently some get unlucky and have the very low powered tugs.

Cheers

My apologies in advance, I am not very technical. The two dot bat files that have either Piper Cub only, or all towplanes; can they be used in multiplayer if the server copy of Condor2 is modified as well?

I note the application specifically says it cannot be used for multiplayer. It isn't clear whether the other files are the same.

I have 116 tasks and growing on Condor Club. Having the ability when making a task to select a specific type of towplane when designing a task would remove some of the luck on what the pilots get. I realize this will even up in time, but it can be frustrating to get a low power tug in some parts of some landscapes... For our club, which uses a Citabria, and Pawnee, a mix of SuperCub and Wilga would be familiar.

Thanks in advance!

When flying in multiplayer mode you must have (locally) all the planes that are present on the server, otherwise Condor may crash (it does crash all the times here when I forget to re-activate all the planes)
Thus, if you don't know what planes are active on the server you are connecting to, you should activate all planes on your PC

I note the application specifically says it cannot be used for multiplayer. It isn't clear whether the other files are the same.
The warning only means what I explained above.
You could also use the app on the server side if you want to de-activate interactively some planes

Dan, if you have a separate computer running a Condor server separate from the computer you use to fly on Condor then you do not require the utility. If you have a dedicated server you simply remove the tugs you do not wish to use from the PLANES directory.

In my case I have one PC and when I host using DSH I do it from that PC and I then join the server using the same PC and install of Condor2. I have altered the BAT files so when I run them I only have the Wilga in use as a tug. Just edit the BAT file and edit which tugs you want moved / copied back. For the BAT files to work they must be placed into your Condor2 folder. I placed shortcuts for these into my documents/Condor2 folder as I visit this regularly.

Thank you. I will deselect towplanes I don't want from the server for club weekly flying.

I have rewritten the app so that the list of towplanes is now dynamically determined by searching in the Planes and Hidden_planes folders instead of being hard-coded

The new beta version is available there : https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ex5jbu ... sp=sharing

PLEASE NOTE:
I had very little feedback for beta versions recently.
The beta versions will no longer be freely available, you will have to request access for downloading.
If someone does not return any feedback (which may be as short as: "App XXX works fine"), he will not be allowed to download beta versions anymore.
The beta versions will have a limited life span (about 1 month)

So, which tow planes are good to use for competition?

I was requested to use CoToMa because some of tow planes takes very long to bring up release hight.

Some says Dynamic and SuperCub, but some says Wilga and DR400 are good.
The Condor Airport Tutorial says Super Cub needs more length of R/W to take off than others.

I am wondering which are good.

Dynamic and SuperCub is a joke, they are the weakest. The really strong ones are Wilga and DR400, Wilga seems to be the strongest one.

Google the planes and compare the horse power

Or try each tow plane with a very heavy and full glider. You will have a lot of fun with the first ones, when they tow you threw the forest ...

I can confirm that the Condor folder is not detected properly if the path includes spaces.
Any chance you could include a button to select it manually?
