New Scenery - how close to UTM zone border?

Post by jmurtari » Thu Jan 24, 2019 7:18 pm

Folks,

Software background, trying to create a scenery for our local club (Finger Lakes Soaring / Dansville, NY) for Condor 2.

I've downloaded the tools /scenery creation guide and have been reading this forum for potential issues. I saw someone caution to avoid a scenery that crosses UTM zones and to start with something small.

I found a tool that show UTM zones -> https://mangomap.com/robertyoung/maps/6 ... e-am-i-in-#
and it appears we are only 15 miles from the border to our West. Not a problem since most of our flying is within our zone.

My question, when I pick my range of coordinates how close can I come to the UTM zone boundary and not having any problems?
Thanks for the help!
John

Good UTM standards is to not go further then 2 degrees into neighboring zones.
