RawToTrn not included in CLT3

Post by mankymuncle » Tue Dec 17, 2024 10:53 am

Pretty much as the title says. There is no RawToTrn file in the CLT3 package, which means I can't follow the landscape guide that is available on the downloads page. I have a clipped BIL file from QGIS, but this is the furthest I get without the RawTOTrn app. Is there a workaround to this?

The rawtotrn tool was part of the Condor 2 CLT tools package, and as you have pointed out is not included in the C3 CLT version. However the C2 rawtotrn tool works fine with sceneries for C3. There is a limitation in the size of the scenery in x dimension. I have found that 23 tiles in x is the maximum, any more than that gives a memory error. I did use the rawtotrn tool for my UK scenery which is 23 x 41 so large sceneries are possible. If you still have the C2 version of rawtotrn available then it will work for your .bil file. I usally rename the file to .raw which works ok.

Condor 2 tools are still available here:

Hi, I'm also having trouble. It's my first time trying to create a landscape in Condor. I'm on Condor 3. I spent a lot of time trying to find the RawToTrn util and luckily found this post. Not sure why the tool isn't included in the CLT3.0(are we really suppose to use this tool since they left it out?). I got the tool, "Condor Landscape Toolkit2: RAW to TRN", but in the manual it says to "Load raw heightmap" button and choose the tutorial_clipped.bil file created using QGIS. However, when I click the button, the file filter only allows "RAW 16-bit word files" or "Condor TRN files", which neither seem to be a *.bil file or any file in the output directory of QGIS. So, I'm stuck.

Just change the file name ending of the .bil file to to .raw.

Thanks, changing the file extension allowed it to recognize the file. However, now it says error reading RAW file, wrong dimensions. I put in the NROWS(height) and NCOLS(Width) values from the tutorial_clipped.hdr file into Raw to TRN tool.

Ok, got a bit further. I redid the Earth Explorer export as just one tile instead of multiples, and now The Raw To TRN will load the heightmap. However, the CLT3 manual shows a nice square green tile in the preview of RawToTrn , but the one I get in my preview is mostly filled with snow and some green. I've tried it several times, but once the TRN file and TR3 files are exported to the landscape folder and the landscape editor opened, it doesn't show the Terrain at all, just a grey grid.

Stuck again :?
