Trouble downloading landscape

Post by johngfoster » Wed Oct 28, 2020 6:43 am

I've been in the process of trying to download the Yellowstone landscape for C2. I've experienced a number of interruptions, and the Condor Updater doesn't seem to pick up and continue where it left off. On one occasion I got to 46.7% after 4-5 hrs or so, and my internet (quite unstable) suddenly quit. I had to reboot the modem to get it working again, and now after I started downloading the landscape again, it shows 46.7%, but hasn't moved past this for the last 20-30 minutes. When I look at the downloads folder, I see constant activity, with files popping up and disappearing, but on the updater it hasn't changed at all, even a fraction of a percent. What's going on?

If you don't have premium-membership you need a free slot. You can see the free and used slots here

https://www.condor-club.eu/sceneries/197/

I have problems with the Condor-Updater. With a very stable internet (glasfiber, business-connection) I have often not finished downloads using the Updater.

My way to solv this is

Looking for a free slot
Finding the Landscape on condor-club
Downloading the files by hand via browser (I use Firefox). You can only download one file at the time
After downloading all files starting the Condor-Updater for installing

This way is a hard way, because you have to look for each file after a free slot. For me it seems to be the only one without the premium-membership.

The last Landscape I downloaded I got a connection with 45 kBit, that means downloadtime 8 hours for one file. Condor Update crashes with different errormessages, I don't remember (something with Socket and others). After a lot of stopped downloads in 24 hours without one finished file, I found out the alternate way. By hand Firefox downloaded each file, 2 hours with 250 kBit (that is usually) and 8-10 hours with 45 kBit (sorry for blocking the slot so long, but it's not my failure).

Sure, the best way is to get premium membership, there are no speed limitations for download, they say, but I have not tried yet ...

I don't know if a stopped download starts again, I have always deleted the stopped downloadfiles.
