Strange scoring

Post by arneh » Sun Jan 19, 2025 8:00 am

I was looking at my result for day 2 of the FAI contest. I was scored with a penalty of 9:42, but trying to look at the flight track to see where I got that, I see that Condor Club has not scored me as neither started nor turned any of turnpoints or finish. Yet I have a task time of 1h 36m 19s (before penalty), and is scored as a finisher. Inside Condor I was scored as having finished the task and turned all points.

Analyzing the IGC file I can see that I was about 55m too high a the start. Is Condor Club not able to score the start if it's too high, even if Condor allows it (with penalties)?

In Condor I was scored with 116 penalty points, which seems about right for 2 points per meter too high, which was what the task was set up to have. In Grand Prix (both real and virtual according to https://www.virtualgliding.fai.org/news ... -published), the penalty is 2 seconds per meter too high. So that should have resulted in the penalty of 116 seconds, yet I got 5 times that much (582 seconds).
I see no other infractions which should have resulted in the penalty time (start speed was ok, finish altitude was ok, did not enter airspace or clouds).

So seems to be 2 problems
* Condor Club does not register start, finish and turn points when start is too high
* Penalty time is wrong accoring to rules

Apparently you are not the only one, I see that all Condor penalty points in that race have been converted to seconds with a multiplying factor of 5

CC lets you configure the number of seconds per condor penalty point.

I only see this when setting up /editing my own competition, I dont see where you can find this number for other competitions, but it seems like this was set for 5, which in combination with condors 2 points per meter, results in a much too high penalty.

The flight analysis for your task seems to be a CC problem. CC determines if you turned a TP or not, regardless of condor (which is what allows us to score you in E-glide, even though condor doesnt register any TPs after using the motor). Looks like because you "missed" the start line, it didnt consider the other TPs either. However, the overall result and time is determined by condor, and that works, so thats why you would be scored (in the FAI competition, but not in e-glide).

Ah, thanks for finding the issue. I've notified Antoine who's changed it for the contest. But results will need to be recalculated.

There was still one issue this morning on this, Wiek spotted it.
Nothing we could do on our side, some penalties are new in Condor 3.

Thierry has reacted very quickly and fixed it all a few minutes ago :D
Thanks to everyone involved in finding out what went wrong!
