RL IGC to FTR conversion

Post by Geepers » Thu Jan 16, 2025 9:36 am

Trying to convert a number of RL IGCs from a recent RL competition into FTRs to fly against them in Condor. (Yes, do realise the thermals will not be the same as those the actual pilots experienced however the task were AATs and the number of competitors was quite small.)

One of the RL IGCs converted successfully (using the CC converter with a 13hr UTC offset) . It does appear as a ghost in Condor. The other 8 apparently did not convert successfully - they do not appear when selected a ghosts and give an "Error loading flight track" msg when attempting to vierw them with Condor Flight Analysis. All RL IGCs are viewable with SoaringLab.

Any ideas?

If you don't post the files here, no one will be able (and willing) to help

Sorry - wasn't planning to be unhelpful. Just cannot get the forum to accept a .igc nor .ftr files for an attachment. Is there any other way to post the files?

Alternatively here are links to clickable links to download IGC files that don't appear to convert properly.

As a list in the competition. The IGC associated with ID "DD" converts correctly. None of the others convert to usable FTRs. https://www.soaringspot.com/en_gb/new-z ... 1-04/daily

And one of the flights as viewable from SeeYou.

Not sure how to post the blank FTR file.

Does this help?

Of course!

Here's the original IGC, blank FTR (used by CC uutility), and the converted FTR that doesn't load.

Thanks in advance.

Please let me know if there's any more info needed.

Thanks

In the mean time, I was able to download the IGC files, create an FPL and blank FTR and convert the 514_FF.igc file

The result is the same, the converted FTR file cannot be loaded into Condor

Strangely, both converted files can be read by VerifLocal (safety-oriented flight analyser)

I'm afraid I can't help more than that, if BOD1 doesn't react to this thread, try contacting him on CC

Please post a faulty FTR file here for me to look at.
The one contained in the ZIP file is correct.
And for the record, Condor Club doesn't accept FTRs from conversions.

Both the FTR posted by Geepers and the one I made (attached) can be read in the flight planner, but not in the flight analysis (just tested)

Thanks for looking at this BRE901 and BOD1.

Bre901,
Not quite sure what is meant by "can be read in the flight planner". Do you mean doesn't produce an error when the FTR is selected as a ghost? Because the ghost doesn't show up after starting the flight despite flight start times that match the UTC time for the IGC.

BOD1,
What application are you using to verify "The one contained in the ZIP file is correct"?

Also appears others are having similar issues converting RL IGCs.

Thanks - didn't know that was there.

Not sure it tells us much. The info defining the task/weather/etc has come from the blank FTR the CC utility needs to convert the IGC. Doesn't seem to use any of the IGC's B records at that point.

Attempting to use CoFliCo utility to convert back to a FTR to see if that reveals anything. :? MS onedrive :(
