Now I understand age 65 retirement rule

Post by Tailspin » Thu Jun 16, 2022 2:47 am

Yesterday I flew a short cross country, a bit longer than my diamond badge. So I decided to submit it to update the distance in my signature. But the flight was rejected without explanation.

Bright boy that I am, I soon figured out that distance badges are issued in increments of 250km starting at 500. So I went out and flew a 500km task and then a 1000km task for good measure and they were accepted. But the signature distance wasn't updated and apparently the 1000km task doesn't satisfy the 750k requirement.

Live and learn.

So today I set out to fly an 800+km task to fill in the missing 750km badge. After carefully checking that all the NOTAM settings we correct (no outside views, etc.) I launched into the wild blue. Tow dropped me off and I was on my way and spent 4+45 playing in the lennies.

But the flight was rejected. Why? Because the tow dropped me off at 800m instead of the proscribed 750. Yeah, I should have known, and no it wasn't the tow pilot's fault.

But #$%^&*(

Good thing I hung up my spurs 12 years ago and enjoy (mostly) flying Condor now.

So it seems!

But it does seems as if your signature should carry your best performance in each category, and the tow plane should drop you off at the proper height.

Just sayin'.

Probably should! I guess I could change it - been meaning to for a few years!!

I flew the diamond badge task the other day with the Arc Alpin Task from condor club. I decided I would fly it with the Blanik to prove how "good" I am even though the task was setup for the 15m class. I thought, what does that matter?? Well it matters a lot because the task wasn't accepted. You would think I know better by now!

[...what you didn't say...]

You're very kind for not pointing out I'm an idiot.

It finally dawned on me that the tow plane climbs to whatever altitude the user sets in the NOTAM section.

To be honest I didn't think that at all!
