VSPE for everybody, everywhere

Hi everybody,

This subject has already been dealt with, more or less totally, but few days ago, on TS, there was a discussion about the connection of XCSoar on a Tablet or a Smartphone, on a second screen, on another PC, etc.

We must thank SNIP, Le Montois, Capricorne, Marc Till, Jan Jansen and I certainly forget some of you who have already solved these configurations, and from whom I write this topic...!

XCSoar like LK8000 are free applications that can be downloaded from the Internet.

Let's be clear, it's not obvious, but with a little (a lot) of persistence, we can do everything working together!

VSPE is free if you answer NO and OK to Eterlogic's requests at each start-up.

Here is the final configuration Client/Server:

Vspe Final + WIFI Eth.png

The PC on which Condor 2 is installed is set with Windows 7 64 bit, This VSPE configuration should work with Windows 10, according to other Topics found on the Forum. The Tablet is recent (2020). The remote PC on the network is old, set with Vista Pro 32 bit.

All VSPE devices must be on 4800 Baud. Mixing can cause untimely stops, etc.

Here is the detailed configuration of one of the TcpClient devices on VSPE and the configuration on XCSoar on the remote PC on the network, you must create a TCP Port device:

VPConfig XCSOAR.JPG

You will be asked to allow access through the firewall of the remote PC through the network so that communication can be established, normally just after finishing the configuration of XCSoar.

Here is a photo showing the simultaneous operation with Condor 2 of:
CondorNav and CoTASA displayed on the second screen of the main PC.
XCSoar displayed on the Tablet.

It also works with LK8000

Hi all,
As I was not satisfied with the tutorials about the use of VSPE between Condor 2 and the CondorNav, XCSoar, LK800 and CoTASA applications, I tried to write a summary on all the possibilities offered by VSPE. By far I prefer the Server/Client architecture with the Server on the Condor 2 PC, but the reverse is also treated.
As it is not possible for me to upload the files (2 Mo each) to the CondorSoaring International Forum, there will only be one broadcast on Condorsim, pending a better solution.
I remain attentive to any constructive remarks on the content and any errors that may have slipped into the text in French or in English.

An example of what can be done:

I have never managed to get LK8000 working but XCSoar is fine. I don't suppose you fancy making a for dummies for me?

Hi garymortimer,
Sorry to answer so late, I was touring.

The PDF tutorial of 30 pages, fully illustrated, is a step by step tutorial and all configurations had been tested.

So Dummies can also build their own configuration.

Obviously, there is missing steps in the user manual appendix 5 External PDA.

Here is the summary of the tutorial :

Step-by-step tutorial to use Condor 2 and XCSoar or LK8000 on an external Wi-Fi PDA or Remote PC

Download a COM port emulator 4
The basic configuration of VSPE 5
Creating the "Pair" device 5
Creating the "Splitter" device 7
Configuration of XCSoar PC 9
Configuring a VSPE Client/Server for a Tablet or a Smatphone with XCSoar in Wi-Fi. 13
Finding the device's IP address 13
Adding a new "TcpClient" device to access the tablet via the Wi-Fi network 14
Configuring XCSoar or LK 8000, on a Smartphone or a Tablet, in Wi-Fi. 15

Have a look to the photo of my Condor 2 desk:

The following applications are started and run simultaneously:

PC Condor 2:
VSPE configured as a Server.
CoTASA
LK8000 on the 2nd screen
XCSoar on the 2nd Screen.

XCSoar over Wi-Fi on the Tablet

Remote PC:
LK8000 C via the home network.
VSPE configured as a Client
CondorNav via VSPE Client.

You can download the English or French Tuto on the French Forum

If you can't, PM me your Email address, and I will send you the tutorial.

To illustrate the sketch Server/Client, here is the configuration on the Condor 2 PC (with condor 2 NMEA set to COM2)

Obviously, in the following :
- Fixed IP address of Condor 2 PC: 192.168.1.50
- Port number: 10110
- Baud rate if needed: 4800 (Settings Button)

(see the messages above)

And the configuration of LK8000 in Wifi or remote PC (Both had TCP Client and accept direct fowarding without the help of a VSPE)

ConfigLK8000Client.png

CondorNav on a Remote PC

You must configure a second VSPE on the Remote PC as hereunder:

VSPEClientRemotePC.png

The configuration of the TCP Client:
VspeClientDevicechar.png

and fix the "speed" at 4800 baud, via the "Setting" button.

Obviously CondorNav is set with COM2.
But don't forget to manage UDP, CoTASA and CondorNav ini files in order to forward UDP data (See CondorNav and CoTASA manuals).

All is explained step by step in the Tutorial

Note that all is on COM5 (TCP Server and TCP client, and applications on Condor2PC)

Good flight!
