First time building a PC

Post by Empyrean » Wed Apr 29, 2020 5:28 pm

Hello everyone! Hope you are all well.

The last time I owned a PC was in the mid nineties. Condor has piqued my interest and now I am considering building my own PC.

Here’s what I came up with (prices have been corrected):

Total Price: £1844

Ryzen 3 3200G + Vega 8 GPU £78

Asus ROG Crosshair VIII Impact £373

Geforce GTX 1060 3GB £200

(2x4GB) Crucial Ballistix 2400 MHz £36

Seagate Barracuda 510 1TB SSD £170

Seagate Barracuda 1TB £35

Corsair RM750x £115

NZXT H510 Black £70

Noctua NH-D15 chromax.black £77

Dell UltraSharp U3415W £601

Microsoft Windows 10 Home | USB Flash Drive £89

I would like to get the most out of Condor whilst keeping the budget within reason. I already have a keyboard and mouse and the Thrustmaster T.16000M FCS Hotas.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Stay safe!

The price of the Corsair RM750x can"t be right. It's close to 130euro online.

Indeed, I just checked. It’s £114.99. The app did say that pricing data may not be accurate outside of the United States.

This build is very much not balanced. if we go for max preformance per £ :
- Swap Ryzen 3 3200G for Ryzen 5 2600X (130-ish £) or maybe even 3600(X)
- Motherboard is waaay overkill for Condor and also everything else in your original build. (If you go 2nd gen Ryzen I would recommend B450 Tomahawk, 110ish £)
- RAM: chose something with frequency of above 3000 MHz, Ryzen loves fast memory.
- Power supply; absolutely no need for 750W, around 600-650W is more than enough. With your current build even 550W would be enough.
- Would invest all the money we saved above to better GPU like GTX 1070, RTX 2060 etc.

This looks quite useful and within your budget (include Win10):

My new AMD setup, small, lots of bang for the buck, when raytracing is not needed (not for Condor), loosely inspired by https://techbuyersguru.com/1250-slim-mi ... g-pc-build

SSD 1 TB 4.2/4.9G MP600 PCIe M.2 259,00 €
Asus ROG STRIX B450-I GAMING B450 179,90 €
Shark SilentStorm SFX 500 M Gold 500W 79,90 €
Sapphire RADEON RX 5700 XT PULSE 499,00 €
D416GB 3200-16 Vengeance LPX K2 COR 94,90 €
Silverstone SST-RVZ02B ITX 89,90 €
AMD Ryzen 5 3600 WRAITH 3600 AM4 BOX 184,90 €

Netto-Sum: 1.146,69 EUR
VAT (A): 21,00 % on 1.146,69 EUR = 240,81 EUR
TT

Ryzen 5 3600X £209.98
For condor, this is overkill. Condor only really uses 1 core/thread. A ryzen 3300X has all the cores /threads (4/8) and performance you need at less than half the price. Its also plenty fast for almost any other current game (except maybe DCS, but nothing is fast enough for DCS). If you cant find it yet, a ryzen 1600AF is also a steal. Dont be misled by the name, its really second generation ryzen, basically a rebranded 2600..
Geforce GTX 1060 £202.02
Given that glorious 4K monitor, spend the cpu savings on a faster GPU. A radeon 5700 (XT) or a 2060 would be my recommendation, especially if you consider VR one day. 200+ quid also seems a little steep for a 1060 which is getting pretty old now. Id expect to buy at least a GTX 1660 for that money?
Noctua NH-D15 £79.99
Again overkill for a 65W CPU. Now I would also buy an aftermarket cooler, the ones included with those ryzens are adequate but a bit noisy under load. But taming the noise doesnt require a highend noctua. Any tower cooler with a 120mm fan and 4 heatpipes from a recognizable brand will be fine. I recently got a Deep Cool Gammaxx for about 1/3 the price of your noctua, its not like I recommend it specifically but I needed something fast, and it copes fine with my 2600X. Not really worse than my 240mm radiator water cooler it replaced.

A massive thank you to all those involved in this thread for helping me out.

I have ultimately decided to not go ahead with getting a PC after all. I have been procrastinating longer than necessary with something that should have been quick and easy.

Full disclosure: I have been struggling with depression for a long time and can’t justify spending money on something I am likely to lose interest in a few months down the line as I have done in the past.

I appreciate all the support you have shown and wish you all the best.

Claude
