Joystick for Condor

Post by bpattison » Tue Feb 21, 2017 5:06 am

I am just starting with Condor. Any recommendations to use with my new Microsoft Surface Pro 4? I have a docking station and large monitor, etc. I would like FF but don't care about the rudder pedals (twist grip is fine).
Thanks

What OXO said, microsoft sidewinder forcefeedback 2. Its almost 20 years old, its been out of production for over 10 years, maybe 15, but its still the best joystick you can buy. Scour ebay and local advertisement sites, sometimes you can find them for as little as €25, but expect to pay 2 or 3x that much. Well worth it!

I’m about to get one and I see there is a “red version” of this microsoft controller. More expensive, and not sure what it really adds. Is this something i want? Want to avoid? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

If you can get it for the same price, get it! :) supposedly the force feedback drivers are better (Although i've never heard anyone actually feel any difference)..

Just bought one myself the black version, really great so far.. While the precision and feel coming from a TM WH is quite a large step down, the feeling of force feedback is great.. If you want to extend the length for better control there are also some "pretty simple" (involves some smd soldering) mods to increase the force output to around double. Just needs some extra resistors, the thing is so overconstructed it can handle quite a bit.

Thanks for your response. I don’t mind spending more if it’s worth it. And I don’t want to get it if for some reason it’s not compatible with Condor.

I picked up a microsoft sidewinder forcefeedback 2 off of Ebay last week, and attached it this morning. I should have done this months ago. It's a joy to use compared to the the joystick I was using (Saitek Cyborg X). And, after a 1-1/2 hour flight, my hand and wrist are not aching. I now also recommend one. Too bad Microsoft decided to quit making them. (Just for completeness, I'm running Windows 10, and it automatically installed the driver)

edit (two days later): The more I use this joystick, the more I'm loving it. Better than the Cyborg X, better than the X52, and better than the Logitech 3D Pro (well, most anything is better than that, IMHO... the one I had wore out in under 4 months usage several years ago).

Hi
I also have an old sidewinder force feedback.
The problem is the game port.
I did try the USB converter USB-Nest Rockfire.
But it doesn't recognize the joystick commands.
What converter are you using?
Any suggestion with my hardware?

The previous post is 2 years old

The MSSWFFB2 has a USB connector, so no converter is needed

Apparently it's difficult to adapt a FFB1 to W10 : take a look at this thread : viewtopic.php?f=31&t=19640&p=168531&hil ... rt#p168531
