AAT in C3 & Condor Club
Hi,
I am hosting Cumulus Cup 2025 competition and I would like to set up an AAT task. The issue is following:
1) I create a task in C3 with 2 h task time.
2) When I configure the task in Condor Club, I configure "Distance task AAT/D" with maximum duration 2 hours.
3) After submitting the task it appears in Condor Club as "Speed task AAT/S, 2 hours".
What went wrong? Or is this ok? How to set up a task in which the winner is the competitor, who has flown the longest distance in 2 hours in assigned areas?
Best regards,
Mika "L0" Koski

Re: AAT in C3 & Condor Club
AAT(/S) means you a have minimum time (like 2 hours), and you are scored for your average speed, which is the same as your max distance over your flight time (with a minimum of 2 hours). This is the normal AAT and probably what you are looking for. But note there is no maximum time, although the size of your sectors will determine the maximum distance, and going over the minimum time will almost always result in reducing your average speed (due to start/finish height difference).
Im not 100% sure what AAT/D is. I think it is really assigned distance task:

Which I havent seen used in condor (or RL).

HI Mika,
AAT/D and AAT/S are old stuff... I don't remember when this was removed from the rules. I've been flying contest since 2011, and I've never had to fly an AAT/D. We need to talk with Thierry about this, but I would prefer FES scoring to come first. The correct one for you is AAT/S obviously.
Here are a few differences:
AAT/Distance Task
- Objective: Maximize the distance flown within the set task time.
- Scoring Focus: Distance is the primary factor; speed is secondary.
- Strategy: Pilots prioritize choosing optimal routes and turnpoint locations to cover the greatest possible distance while balancing the need to finish on time.
- Scoring Approach: Points are heavily weighted toward total distance covered. Speed points may be awarded but are less significant compared to distance.
AAT/Speed Task
- Objective: Maximize the speed around the course within the task time.
- Scoring Focus: Speed is the main determinant of the score.
- Strategy: Pilots focus on minimizing time while still covering a substantial distance, optimizing their flight to fly efficiently and return close to the set time.
- Scoring Approach: Speed (average task speed) is the dominant factor, and distance is only relevant insofar as it contributes to achieving a high average speed.
Thierry probably can probably share the scoring method for both.
Today, there are three different types of tasks and scoring methods (or four, if you include SGP). Please see the details below.
I’ve also attached the FAI/IGC Sporting Code. Part 6 may be particularly helpful if you take a look.
DHT is different from AAT/Distance. It’s being used for testing in SGP, where we experiment with multi-class racing using the same regatta start time, but still want the first pilot to cross the finish line to win. Otherwise, the concept wouldn’t make sense. If I recall correctly, it was also tested in Aalen and at the e-glide.
For the rest, I'll let BOD1 answer
Have a good day,
Antoine

Re: AAT in C3 & Condor Club
C3 supports only AAT/S. If AAT is set with Condor 3 flight planner, CC settings are overwritten.
If you want AAT/D, uncheck AAT in C3 (side effects: PDA won't know it's an AAT)

What distance aat means according to the igc
and my own little comparision of different competition formats (in paragliding)

Hi FF7,
Can you forward me the link where you found the proposal please?
This is indeed not in the rules or recognized by IGC, but just one proposal amongst hundred others, so it is not valid currently.
Thanks for your table, it helps people to understand!
Have a good day,

Thanks everybody for helping me and supporting Cumulus Cup!
Tomorrow we will have a AAT/S task and let the best competitor.... get the best score!
