I used to be against aistarts, but as the towplane issues in valleys are not fixed and the Tchin-tchin servers are quite full these days, I have changed my mind: today's Tchin-tchin flight will have an airstart.
This should also allow for earlier finishes as the average speeds are lower than C2 when trying to have realistic weather
Agree with Antoine about the classes and the TP on summits

I agree. We also stay with the tow. And I fully support the Tchin Tchin guys to keep aerotow. As DGTFER pointed out because it contributes to the realism.dgtfer wrote: ↑Sun Jan 05, 2025 10:07 amOK men, that's called an error! Despite this, we remain attached to the towed departure, which contributes to the realism of our flights. But if we like tow start as most people do, we don't like crashing in the mountains and we all agree that Ambri is not the best airport for that. We will modify our procedure, with a start a bit further ahead of the runway, and if that's not enough we'll have airstarts...
But...
We think it's time for Uros to manage a better tow procedure. Yesterday my tow plane didn't turn left at first, so I didn't crash in the pylons on the north side of the valley, but for its second bend, it did a 270° and went straight south on the mountain, I had to release prematurely. I don't know a procedure to avoid this. After spending hours and dozens of pages of posts on the forum answering the nitpicking about the acceptable level of assistance for the rudder pedals, or about the correct positioning of the flap control lever (!), it would seem more useful to us to solve this problem once and for all. In Condor2 it was easy to remedy with the slopes that were active even at the bottom of the valleys; in Condor3 this is no longer possible. This problem is no longer a minor one.
On the other hand the tow process needs to be updated. We need more startlines and the towplane itself still flys into mountains like it did in C2 what generates us even more work because we have to check every single airport before hosting and creating a task. Then the second major problem by stopping the tow process caused by high ping jumps what was promised to take care of but still isn't done. And I stopped to post it over and over again. My efforts here in this forum are done at the moment. We have made a work around to make the tow work (I have to watch the tow for 25 minutes and kick people out if neccessary) so this solution works but its just a work around and came from me. Also we reduced the server size as Tchin Tchin. The downside of it is that I can only join the race very late, while everybody else is already airborne. But at least we haven't had any tow problems again after some own changes.

Re: Tchin Tchin airstart please
The tow procedure is well know. Again.... straight ahead to 100 AGL, shortest way turn to the start point. It will then fly to the nearest thermal. If you put the start point on the side where there is a mountain the towplane will turn into it. Same with a startpoint at the airport in a narrow valley. If you put the start point straight ahead there is no issue.
I agree it could be better. But there is no excuse for poor task design that causes the towplane to fly into a mountain when the towplane logic is well known.
We know that the logic isn't perfect. It is in the list to fix. But remember the whole team works on Condor next to full time jobs. We cannot fix all bugs within a week. Especially something like this that has 2 very resonable workarounds:

- stop using stupidly designed tasks/airports that are not suitable for aerotow with the current towing logic.
- use airstart if you must use that particular task design

I don't think any task setter is doing this on purpose. No need for being offensive. Have made my point. Everything was already said.

I didnt say you should use airstart. Use towing as much as you like. I only said that towing isn't an option at certain airports and/or with certain task designs. If you still want that particular task, use an airstart.
That being said. I strongly prefer airstart due to the time saving. I rather fly a race then wait for a tow.

Re: Tchin Tchin airstart please
The "nearest thermal" logic does make it somewhat unpredictable if you put start sector too close to the airfield, especially if the tow plane also flies towards mountain thermals. That said, I agree issues are usually avoidable with minimal effort/compromise, though Im not sure the logic you explained is that widely known. Might be worth adding it to the manual or have some task-setter sticky post with a few pointers like this, and high start penalties and a few other recurring avoidable issues.
