Re: Condor World CUP 2025
Dear community.
I initially offered to act as a task setter to help Adam organise the Condor World Cup 2025.
However, after discussing this, we both agreed that due to fair play reasons this would not be an acceptable solution. I will still support Adam, but my role will be reduced to just sporting advice and I will have nothing to do with the actual task setting.
So, CWC now needs a task setter or setters. If you have experience creating interesting tasks please send me a private message. I will give you Adam's email address where you can submit your tasks. As CWC organisers we have agreed on the key settings and concepts you can see below. These are not negotiable, but if you spot something seriously wrong please let me know.
If you want to create tasks for CWC your tasks should meet the following criteria:
NOTAMS – Compulsory settings
1) One class per race. Different races can be in different classes.
2) Air start - no aerotows or winching
3) Start speed – 170km/h
4) Icons and turn point helpers range 6km
5) Thermal helpers – 0
6) Only allow – bugwipers, PDA and mid-air -collision recovery
7) Cloud flying 60/min
8 ) Plane recovery – 0
9) Height recovery – 200
10) Window entrance and collision – 0
11) Airspace zone entrance – outlanded.
12) Penalty zone entrance – 200
13) Thermal helpers per minute -200
14) Start speed penalty – 1
15) High start penalty – not started
16) Low finish penalty – 1
Other task-setting guidance
1) Set race in to 3min with 40 minute window
2) Airstart – release just under the cloud base (do not release in clouds!) and above the max task start altitude. Preferably release near an airfield for relaunch possibility. If needed consider setting good weather zone in the start area to allow everyone to easily stay up and start the task without too much trouble.
3) Turn point sectors – 500m radius cylinders.
4) Start and finish sectors 3000m radius 180 degrees, with appropriate max start altitude depending on task.
5) Finish between 100 and 200m above the finish point ground elevation.
6) Task should be possible to complete in 1h30 to 2h30.
7) Tasks should be interesting and ‘feature rich’ Make use of weather zones, and airspace if possible.
8 ) Name weather zones to briefly describe them. For example ‘Strong S wind’, Bombastic’ ‘No activity’, etc…
9) Set wing loading limit to promote usage of different gliders.
10) Make sure airspace allows the task to be completed. Competitors should not be forced to fly very close to the ground with a high risk of outlanding because of the airspace above the turn point.
11) There should be a good mix of tasks with 25% thermal 25% hills and 50% mountain flights. Some task should have usable and working ridges.
12) Tasks should have a good balance of difficulty, with very few or none above 180km/h or under 100km/h in a high-performance glider. Some weaker conditions would be ok to force decisions about wing loading.
13) Avoid tasks with high ‘luck factors’. Fo example: give participants plenty of opportunities to climb in order to make a mountain pass. Avoid high variation with low activity as this limits the choice pilots have. Do not set rain at turn points or in places which pilots cannot avoid. If thermalling is required a numerous thermals should be needed to reach the finish line.
14) In the task name include landscape, glider class, terrain type (flatland, hills, mountains) and task type (thermal, ridge, or thermal and ridge, cloud streets?)
15) Landscapes – Slovenia, AA3 and UK3

Re: Condor World CUP 2025
I would advise against this. I would set this about 300 meters below max start height. If you set it above you can climb on engine to get an optimal start, which would be an unfair advantage for players without an engine.witor wrote: ↑Fri Jan 03, 2025 2:12 am2) Airstart – release just under the cloud base (do not release in clouds!) and above the max task start altitude. Re: Condor World CUP 2025
Why does that make it unfair? having an engine or fes can provide far greater advantages IRL and they are currently of no real use in condor races. Now I highly doubt anyone is going to pick a DG808 or asg29 to have a tiny chance at a marginally better start in one particular CWC race, but if anyone wants to, I dont see the harm in it? Its not like we worry about using a JS3 or EB29 is unfair vs players flying worse planes.

AS33 has been announced for 18 meter class, then it may become very relevant.

Right now we are keeping sundays as our day for training races as long as people ask for it. Just want to let you know.

Re: Condor World CUP 2025
Consider settings icons visibility range to 3km. 6km gives too much info about routes and thermals for those starting behind. Besides now we have flarm so there is no need to fill the sky with icons.

Re: Condor World CUP 2025
FLARM range is about 6 km. So icons at 6 gives about the same info for XC and non XC users. Only advantage XC users have is that they can see the raw climb values (uncompensated).

Hi Guys,
I really appreciate your suggestions and advice, in regards to some settings and even days for competition.
Unfortunately, almost all is agreed, so there is not so many to change (but not impossibe
) . CWC editions always runs on Thu and Sun so also nothing to change.
Witold WRW gave some tips for tasks creators. And this is, what I'm expecting for, as I want to use the best ot them assuming that I might change them a litlle if necessary.

Re: Condor World CUP 2025
I personally support if we get more competitions with different styles but what gives me a bitter taste is that you show up very late and took two days of already running comps which is MO and Cumulus Cup. Also with the same end date as Cumulus Cup. All other organizers take care of each other and try to avoid having comps side by side in the same time window. So basically your intention is to create a counter event. I remember this is not the first time.mada2000 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 03, 2025 12:45 pmHi Guys,

Re: Condor World CUP 2025
Hello, Guys!
I have making my first basic task, hopefully with the correct settings. I have avoided all the more complicated and
confusing airspace restrictions and prohibited zones. Enjoy your viewing!
Regards & H.N.Y. in 2025!

Re: Condor World CUP 2025
I didn't yet look to the task but if everyone is going to publish the tasks here we can already fly them plenty of times to gain advantage over others who didn't see or haven't got time to do so. Maybe send them to AGO only instead of public uploads.
