Aces High possible Return.
Hi All,
I am thinking about reviving the Aces High League and possibly a re run of the very successful 2008 "Gladiators Of The Sky" GP Competition.
Let me know if you are interested (trying to judge possible interest)

Can those, who didn't know what happened in Condor 17 years ago, please get a little bit more information? F.x used classes, mode of the competition, schedule. Only some topics, not the whole book

I remember an early attempt at live streaming. Screenshots mind you, live video was not feasible then, it was a bit ahead of its time
That said, is there going to be a Condor World Cup this season? Ive not seen or heard anything. If there is not going to be a CWC, and the FAI competition seems to have evaporated too, then I think we really need something to plug that hole.

Re: Aces High possible Return.
TLDR Version
Aceshigh Racing league was twice weekly
1. realistic weather, medium to difficult tasks which were tested to make sure they could be completed each race was a different class. SBC Style scoring as in leaderboard which reset monthly.
Gladiators of the sky.
Qualifications
Was broken down by region Norther America, Europe including the UK at that time, Oceana (Australia New Zealand) the best Sceneries selected from each region that were available
Due to the high number of participants there were qualifying groups.
Qualification: Where there were groups the top 2/3 pilots qualified depending on the size of the group. who then raced in a final race against each other for qualification. The top two pilots from each region then qualified for the finals.
Basic rules were same glider to be used from start to finish, Crash = you are out of the series, subject to appeal disconnection etc where we looked at it case by case.
The Finals were held on the New Zealand Landscape using the weather as close as was possible with the old condor limitations and the actual tasks from the real world finals were used.
In the archived forums do a search for Gladiators of the Sky you will get a feel for how it went. and also feedback on Aces High League,
Oh yeah and the GP was manually Scored no CC back then. Aceshigh had a form you could upload your IGC to and it was scored automatically and the results were posted after the last server closed as we had servers running for various timezones.

Yup a virtual webcam live streaming condor to a custom webpage using RPC, back when bandwidth meant how wide a roll of sticky tape was lol.Vertigo wrote: ↑Sat Dec 28, 2024 4:48 pmI remember an early attempt at live streaming. Thanks for the information. I will follow how it will be realized. Especially interesting is the "qualifying thing". Would be interesting at the beginning with offline flights for people with a limited schedule. Something in Barron Hilton style, where the flights happen remote too IRL

i feel a bit nostalgic now. speed battle cup competition and format was also nice. variety of landscapes instead of a single one was great. +1
