Specifications for running a Condor 3 server
Hi all,
What are the the minimum specifications for running a Condor 3 server to host games via the internet.
Can it be run in Windows 10 or 11?
I understand that the server PC must have Condor 3 installed and obviously any landscapes for flights being hosted, but I read elsewhere on this forum that a server does not have to be a licenced version.
Does the PC that the server is running on have to have a certain minimum graphics card spec?
Do the landscapes installed on the server have to be io a SSD or is a HDD sufficient?
Thank you.
Daan.

I use 3 virtual Win 10 clients as server, no special graphic cards. Landscapes on SSD, but I think it's not important. You only need the files in the folder of each landscape, but not the sub folders (and not the maps). Before I used an old laptop, so I think you don't need a "big" machine

Re: Specifications for running a Condor 3 server
When I hosted multiple C2 servers for some large competitions, I have never been able to measure any statistically relevant CPU load. Its like zero +- ~zero. Memory usage is like 10MB per instance. Yes MB (!). You dont need a GPU, you dont need the entire landscape, as 6266 said, only a few relevant files from the landscape. All you really need is a good internet connection. If you are not internet bandwidth constrained, Id be surprised if any random laptop you find in a dumpster would not be able to host a dozen server instances without breaking a sweat.
As for licenses and installing; you dont need a license, and I heard a server installer is being worked on.

Re: Specifications for running a Condor 3 server
Dear all,
C3 use more ports for serving tasks than C2 does. Two more ports are added for voice channels.
Do those affect performance to serving tasks?
Currently, due to the volume issues discussed in this forum, a few may be using voice channels through C3.
In the future when it is solved and 40~50 pilots make voice conversation through C3, do I need much powerful PC and higher Internet speed?
I would like to have some advice.
Naoki

Re: Specifications for running a Condor 3 server
I have a laptop onto which I have installed Condor 3 to Sim Soar when I am away from home.
I also have C3 installed on my desktop which I use for Sim Soaring at home.
I am trying set up a server so I can help some of our students learn to soar during the winter months after real-life flying comes to an end in October.
The primary aim is to be able to fly in a twin with a student. It seems that a Dedicated Server is required so that both I and my student can join the game in that server, with the student then joining me in the twin I have selected. It appears not to be possible to host a game from my instance of Condor AND then to invite my student to join me in a twin. The student can join my hosted game but there is no way for him to join me in my twin after that point. That would be the same as someone joining an in-progress game.
Am I missing something ?

Re: Specifications for running a Condor 3 server
In addition to my earlier question of how to fly with a student in the same twin, is it possible to use my laptop as a Server by running CondorDedicated.exe and for me (and my student) to then join the game in that server ? - or will the fact that installation of Condor 3 from where the CondorDedicated.exe would be run is a licenced version be an impediment.
OR is the only criteria that the CondorDedicated.exe server executable be run from a separate PC ?

You can run the dedicated server on the same PC you're running Condor on, I've done it many times. As others have said, the dedicated server doesn't use a license.

Thank you Rotar, so one can set up a dedicated server by running CondorDedicated.exe , and then on the same PC join the game on that server in Condor
