Vintage Series

Post by 6266 » Tue Feb 08, 2022 1:08 pm

Hello all,

the Vintage Series changes the task (that means here the weather settings and the task type) every month. We started the February task in the middle of January, because the tools were ready to use earlier as planned. The February weather settings are not really good and sometimes a little bit too frustrating, for this reason we will start the March task earlier, Monday 21th February will start the March task with better weather conditions and another task type.

If you want to fly the February task (again or the first time), you are welcome to do it until 21th February.

This weekend is the last chance to take part at the first task of the Vintage Series. So far are registered flights of 5 different pilots, what I think is very good for the start of such a niche event. Thanks to all participants! But of course more are very welcome.

The actual results

Monday the task will be changed, more informations about that later.

The new task "B" has been started now and ends at the end of March. Weather conditions are significantly better, it's maybe time to get the SG 38 out of the hangar ;-). But the demands on navigation and time management are beginning to increase. All flights in the Vintage Series are without PDA.

The tasktype of task "A" was "Free", fly as long as you can in the time limit. The running task "B" has the tasktype "Return".
taskb1.png

It's like "Free" with an additional condition "Return", giving 20 % bonus.
taskb2.png

To get the bonus you have to return to the start airport and land there.
taskb3.png

The example tasks on the server "VintageSeries" are changed, all starting from bigger airports to make it easier to return. Landscapes are AA2, Irlande 2, United Kingdom and WestGermany3. But of course the idea of this event is to fly wherever you want. So you are welcome to use your own flightplans on any landscape. You find all information about that on the homepage of Vintage Series or meet us on Discord.

Thanks to all competitors so long and good luck with the new task.

I promised better weather for the second task "Task B". And indeed, it's possible to fly with the SG 38 too. Did a nice flight with it Thursday, 35 km is to beat now ;-).

So if you like to compet with the SG 38 or other older planes

Group 1: SG 38 and Grunau Baby with a time limit of 90 minutes
Group 2: SGS 1-26, Ka 8, Ka 6 and Blanik with a time limit of 105 minutes
Group 3: Pilatus B4, ASW 15, Libelle and Cirrus with a time limit of 120 minutes

try the Vintage Series. A little bit different concept as other competitions, but with a lot of fun too.

All flights without ballast and without PDA.

Re: Vintage Series - newbie offer

Post by 6266 » Mon Mar 14, 2022 4:55 pm

Hi all,

the Vintage Series is first of all an offline competiton with older planes, but of course not only for older pilots. So I think to offer a special price for Newbies.

For new pilots the first challenge in the Vintage Series will be to fly the time without pda, so no thermal helpers in pda or xc-soar and of course not in Condor. And no ridges, because off less wind.

New Pilots IRL and in Condor will get from our sponsor BaleIT AS one of the Condor planes flyable in the Vintage Series

ASW15
Ka6CR
K8
Libelle
PilatusB4
SG38
SGS1-26

at their own choice, when they register their first accepted flight with minimum time 15 minutes under the time limit.

GrunauBaby or SG38: 75 minutes (time limit 90 minutes)
Blanik, Ka6CR, K8 or SGS1-26: 90 minutes (time limit 105 minutes)
ASW15, Libelle, PilatusB4 or StdCirrus: 105 minutes (time limit 120 minutes)

Age doesn't matter, if your are 14 or 84. The only condition is to have less experiences in flying Condor and IRL (if you fly IRL, but you don't have to).

What do you have to do? Register on discord (see the adress in the signature) and take contact with me (Peter (PK6) in discord). You can do it public or via pm. Then we will find out, if you are a newbie. If yes, you get a place on the newbie list.

The offer is limited at the beginning to the first 5 newbies.

Of course all are welcome to the Vintage Series, you can't be too experienced for this event ;-)

The last week for the second task of the Vintage Series, task B, has started. 1. April will start task C with another tasktype and different weather conditions.

So it's time enough to take part on task B or to improve the already registered result.

Until now we have registered flights from 7 pilots, on task A we have had finally 5 pilots. So we are on a good way, thanks to all joining us.

In the newbie offer we sent the first plane to a new pilot today, four planes are left. Congratulations to VK for a 98 minutes flight in the Blanik.

Well done all flying task B!

New month new task. Task C starts now. Registration of flights to task B will be open until tomorrow, but the server runs now C tasks.

We have a new task type "Out" with the condition "straight". So you have to fly out, don't return to the start airport. You will get a 20 % bonus if the distance from the start to the landing is minimum 90 % of the flown route.

Read more details on the web side and ask your questions on discord.

New pilots are still welcome ;-)

Good luck to all

Sometimes things are better in theory than in practice.

So the condition "straight" for task C is not really a good thing. The task type "Out" we use in the task C is now changed. The result is the direct distance from the point of release to the landing. If the height difference between these two points is more than 1000 m, the last point on the track with a height difference of 1000 m or less is defined as point of the landing

Hello

I am new on the vintage series and yesterday I tried a flight on line. I have some questions
Is it equal to fly online or offline ?
As I have understood the jointime and delay before task have no importance. The task begins when the rope is left. Am I right ?
I have not found the time limit for the present task.
To register a flight I need first to register on Skylines. Am I right ?
As concerns landing, no problem or penality to land any where ?
Thank you for your help
Jean-Luc

PS I agree to fly without PDA, but even in a vintage glider, if I had the chance to fly in RL I would never have flown without map  And when I am in condor I am in VR, so no way to look elsewhere than in my cockpit...I know that this possibility does not exist for the moment but it would be great to have the possibility to have a map in the cockpit (or a pda map only)

Hi Jean-Luc,

thanks for your questions.

Here my answers

Yes, you can fly wherever you want

Yes, relevant only is the flight time. It starts with release and ends with the landing

The time limit depends on the plane. We have three categories with different time limits

Category Baby: Grunau Baby, SG 38 = 90 min
Category Blanik: Blanik, Ka6, Ka8, SGS1-26 = 105 min
Category Cirrus: ASW15, Cirrus, Libelle, PilatusB4 = 120 min

Yes, the result calculation needs some data from the uploaded flight in SkylinesCondor

You can land anywhere, but some task types have a condition to return. Then you get a 20 % bonus when landing maximum 1000 m away from the start point

This month the task type has no condition to return

The task type of april is "Out", your result is the direct distance between release and landing point. There you don't need a map, only a compass (and enough space on the landscape). But the return tasks will need a map. I don't have VR, but I have read that people are able to show a map f.x. as a pdf file in VR. You will find some hints to do that here in the forum.

Next sunday (1st of May) we will change the task again, then we are flying task D. So this week is the last possibility to fly task C.

Because I will be in holiday then I can't change the tasks on the server. So task D will have the same weather conditions as task C, but the task type will be different. We will fly the task type "Out and return". It will be until now the most challenging from a time management perspective. You fly as far as you can and return to the start airport. Only the direct distance to the farest point and back is telling.

Turning to early you will loose distance, turning to late you will not return (loosing the bonus for the return) or have to use overtime (getting penalties for the overtime). I'm curious how that works.

In my holidays I can import flights, change the task to task D and finish task C. But if there is something going wrong, I will not have the possibility to correct it. In this case only register your flights, all mistakes will be corrected after my holidays in mid of May.

If the server stops working, I can't do anything with it, then only offline flying is possible.

Thanks to all flying task C this month, we have had some exciting fights ;-)

May is coming to end soon without really a lot of flights. So I thought we could have a flight together tonight. I will start the NorthGermany task today 20:30 local time (18:30 UTC) on the VintageSeries server. We can use the voice channel on Discord (see signature) to talk. It would be nice to meet some of you.

Sorry for the short announcement, the idea came to me a few minutes ago :-D. Because of the way we are flying the VintageSeries there is no waiting time and no end of join in. To start later is no problem, only the in game time will run

Thanks to all joining yesterday. For me it was the highlight in Condor to fly the first time in multiplayer mode from my home airfield. Waited for that nearly 2 years.

To fly the VintageSeries in multiplayer mode is not necessary, but it's nice. If there is the wish to do it more often the server is running 24/7, it's only to find people to join at the same time. Feel free to ask others f.x. via Discord.

I will organize this maybe again, but my time schedule usually doesn't allow it. We will see ...

Couldn't join for the online flight, but I have worked on a suitable skin for the good ol' Grunau Baby!
A simple wood and fabric livery was missing. Until today.
This skin is available from Condor Club.

Wow, that looks very good. Have to see if I can get it.

Maybe we will have another online flight one day. I think it was nice, but stress for me too, first time to host an online flight that kind ...

Of course you are welcome too to participate with offline flights ;-). Tomorrow comes a new task, more info then
