Yesterday's online flight was again a nice flight. After two outlandings the last two month after a short while this time we flew the whole time.

Next month we will have a return task, it's much better to meet after the flight than to land somewhere far away ...

Again we were only two, I hope that in the coming autumn and winter we will have some pilots more.

Thanks to David for flying again with me, it's always nice to fly together

The lazy days are over soon. Tomorrow 1. September starts the new task H. We will have a lower cloud base and a high inversion height, so large and many clouds. High flat activity and streeting, normal thermal strength and width. A short test flight with a full ASW20 showed that the conditions are much better than I expected. But we will have some month again for worse conditions ;-)

Task type is "2 turn points", so we have to fly around 2 turn points (28 % rule) and return to the start airport.

Tasks on the server are

GTA from Murfreesboro
NFL from Deer Lake
NorthGermany from Wunstorf
NWPoland from Leczyca
URY from Santa Bernardina

All airports are bigger ones, so it should be easier to find the way back without PDA.

As always you can fly offline whereever you want.

Last month we have had some changes. Upload of the igc file happens now directly on Vintage Series website, the result is calculated immediately. From the uploaded flight you can open the flight with one click on SeeYou, that's a very nice tool with statistics and my favorite, the 3D playback.

We added a new category (will not call it class) with ASW20 and LS3a, very interesting to fly, but the Grunau Baby will remain my personally favorite ;-). Now we have 4 categories, until now with 3 different leaders in the actual task. That is very good.

Autumn is coming, hope to see some more competitors next month. The first one has already come back after the IRL summer season. Very nice! All are welcome

Last week for task H, Saturday 1st of October comes the next task, task I. I'm a little bit surprised how varying the weather of task H is. On my account are 4 outlandings in 8 flights until now. A statistic of one flight with the best lift of 4,4 m/s and an average climb rate of 1,5 m/s says everything. Difficult to calculate and in combination with the low cloud base, the time limit and the need to return I will call it challenging. But it's fun nevertheless.

Thursday 29th of September will be the next multiplayer flight, 18:30 UTC, task H on NWPoland from and to Pruszcz Gdanski. Task type is again 2 turn points, description of this task type here in this thread on page 2 (15th of June) (sorry, don't know how to create an exact link to a single post in a thread ;-) )

All are welcome to fly online or offline with us.

Have a nice weekend all!

Task H is finished now, task I is running. There we have an out and return with a cloud base of 1200 m and weak but very wide thermals. Looks like it will take a little patience.

In the category "Blanik" we have an exciting head to head race, category "LS3" has started in the middle of the series and is open.

Thanks and congratulations to all competitors.

Maybe the most exciting month on Vintage Series is over now. We got a new competitor, Antti (ARU), welcome to the series.

He competed in 3 of the 4 categories and won all 3. Very well done. Won the Cirrus category with an amazing flight at the last day. Brad (81C) needed a second place in Cirrus category to win that category overall, and he got it with his last flight some minutes ago, very very close to Antti.

Interesting to see the statistic of both, Antti with an average climbrate of 1,9 m/s and a glide ratio of 34, Brad with a climbrate of 1,5 and a glide ratio of 38, both with the Standard Cirrus. Different flight style, nearly the same result.

Congratulations to all, that was great!

Task J is started now. The time limit is changed, it's now 105 minutes for all planes in all categories. With preparation time you will need not more than 2 hours for a flight with a competition time of 1:45. That is a good solution for all with not too much time for using Condor.

After task J we will have the last task K of the 2022 series in December and January, because of Christmas two month.

Finally an announcement to the next series 2023. In that series we will integrate the BaleIT Vintage Series Championship, it's an overall result over all categories. The winner will get the title "BaleIT Vintage Series Champion 2023" and a prize money up to 5000 NOK (round about 500 EUR / USD), depending of the number of competitors. More informations about that later.

If you are interested to become the Champion 2023, you are very welcome to try the Vintage Series in the last two tasks of the 2022 series to familiarize yourself with the rules. Meet us on discord to get answers to all your questions.

The last week in task J is running, last chance to try the task type "Return". 1st of December will start the last task K of the Vintage Series 2022. I promised a good weather. A higher cloud base, no turbulence and good thermals will for sure get the SG 38 out of the hangar. That task and the Series 2022 will end 31.01.2023.

The season 2022 was used to create and try the rules and to build the tools. And of course to have fun flying it.

Next season the BaleIT Vintage Series Championship will be integrated, here the invitation

The last task of the Vintage Series 2022 is running now. We have some small changes:

The only allowed start type now is aerotow because of a possible issue on airborn start in multiplayer
Improved calculation of the release point. The release point can't be higher now than the max start height of the flightplan + 1/3 of the rope length, so taking the lift you are towed in is possible now without miscalculation of the release point, if you release at the defined max start height
On the server will run only one task to make it easier to plan the flight. Of course it's still possible to fly offline on any landscape you wish

Thanks and congratulations to all flying task J, and welcome all to a task K with nice conditions

Only a few days left until the Vintage Series 2022 is over. It was an interesting journey with a lot to learn and a lot to do to get everything done the way I like it.

Now the Series is ready to start into a new season starting 1st of February, including the BaleIT Vintage Series Championship (see above in this thread).

Task K of the Series 2022 is still running until 31st of January, we have had some good races so long, and we haven't finished the fight yet. 26th of January we will have a multiplayer flight from Kendall Gliderport on the landscape Everglades, join in 19:30 UTC on the VintageSeries server.

Thanks to all flying with us, and welcome to all, it's never too late to try the Vintage Series

The new season 2023 has started in the Vintage Series, task A has been created right now and can be flown. Task K 2022 will be open until tomorrow.

Task setting from now on will be by random, so task A is the first one created that way. I think we got an interesting task.

Cloudbase is 1300 m (4264 ft), inversion height between 2500 m (8200 ft) and 3000 m (9840ft). Thermals are very strong but narrow. See all settings in the task document.

Task type is an "Out and return". How do we fly that?

Start is with aerotow from an airport and in a landscape of your own choice. The release is the start of your task, from now on you have a time limit of 1:45 h (105 minutes). You fly out as far as possible and return. Your counting distance is the direct distance between the release point and the farthest point on your route (the turn point) and the direct distance from the turn point to the start point, if you returned to the start airport.

If your flight is shorter than the time limit, you will loose distance, but if it's longer you will get 2 % penalty for each minute overtime.

We are flying planes in these 4 categories

Category Baby: Grunau Baby, SG 38

Category Blanik: Blanik, Ka 6 CR, Ka 8, SGS1-26

Category Cirrus: ASW 15, Pilatus B4, Libelle, Standard Cirrus

Category LS 3: ASW 20, LS 3

All flights will be without pda, without turn point and thermal helpers and always with randomized weather. Ballast is not allowed, only category LS 3 can fly with water and fixed ballast.
cloud.png
Cloud flying is allowed, be prepared. You will find panels with AH for nearly all planes on the web side

Integrated in the Vintage Series 2023 is the BaleIT Vintage Series Championship 2023, here the invitation

https://prosjekt.baleit.no/condor/VS2023.pdf

Hope to meet the pilots from 2022 again and some new. If there are questions (for sure there will), please meet us on discord, there we have an open discussion about the rules and a lot of other interesting stuff

Good luck to all

After my post above we have had a discussion about cloud flying and found a solution for all, I hope.

Not to fly in the clouds (exact not longer than 1 minute in the whole flight) will get a bonus of 5 %, flying longer than 1 minute in the cloud will give the advantage of cloud flying but not the bonus.

This rule starts with task A after finishing task K tomorrow, documentation will follow soon.

Thanks to all for the very useful discussion to make the Series even better
